So the Mrs gave me my birthday presents this evening and one of the movies I unwrapped was a copy of Prometheus. I was stoked as I missed it in theaters and didn't think it was out on dvd yet. Then I noticed that what Wal-Mart had sold her was a digital copy through some service I've never heard of with a code to have the movie shipped to you upon release in October. In very small print at the bottom it said DVD not included. Obviously it's going back to the store tomorrow. This is the dumbest marketing plan I've ever seen. It's right up there with the Star Wars early bird kit. Thank goodness I had some Indy Blu-rays to watch.

Dumb dumb dumb.

I'd hook my computer up to my TV and watch it or just watch on a laptop. I don't think that's dumb at all. You get to watch it almost a month before it comes out on DVD and they send you it on DVD? I think that's kind of cool.

It's available on iTunes in HD now, complete with the cut scenes, which make the movie WAY better. There's a whole conversation between Elba and Theron that adds so much to the decision making, and the extra Engineer stuff was great too!

But wait! Didn't Jeyl tell us that the cut scenes make the movie dumber?! :lol

Srsly, they edited them back in - it's not a separate thing? Sounds promising.

I LOVE this movie. I know I should hate it. But I don't. Huh.

Ah, shame. What solution can there possibly be to such a conundrum? Tch.

I don't think it's a terrible idea. You can stream the movie on your TV (if it has internet apps with VUDU installed...most new TV's from Wal-Mart have it) and get to watch in HD right now. You get a physical copy of the disk in a month delivered to your house. I think it's great.
I've used VUDU before and it worked flawlessly.

I'm more upset about the sneaky way in which they packaged it. Pus I don't want to have to hook my computer up to my tv to watch a movie. That's why I buy DVDs. If they want to sell movies this way, fine. Sell it as a gift card. My god, the environmental waste alone on the package should have the hippies up in arms.

I bought it yesterday on iTunes in HD for $15 and will watch on my big screen LCD with my AppleTV. Very excited!
