Help with the Sonic Screwdriver

Hey there all,

I am extremely new to this site and have a great number of questions. Well, that might be a bit of an exageration, but I do have questions none the less. I know how irritating it is to get the same questions over and over, but when you use a search engine it's really a crap shoot that you'll find what you're specifically looking for. With the hundreds and hundreds of possiblities with tags and keywords and all sorts of nonsense it's hard to even come close to something remotely near what you originally asked.

Right, anyway, I've been searching this site and have been having a big problem tracking down the solution to the current question I have. As a Doctor Who fan I've been looking all around the web for a good tutorials on Sonic Screwdrivers. Sure there are a few, but they don't really give much in the way of a real tutorial. They give very few actual instructions and they just show pictures of their work in progress.

So really my question right now is, can anyone tell me where I can find some good tutorials on how to build a Sonic Screwdriver? At the moment I'm specifically looking to build the 10th Doctors version, but have been thinking of building a custom version for myself that is unique in design. I would like to build one with lights, sound would be nice but really isn't a big deal.

I also want to add that I am a complete idiot when it comes to electronics. I have no idea how to wire things or sauder anything. I would really appreciate any & all help I can get from you wonderful people.

There aren't really any tutorials out there for the 10th's sonic. And as far as I know there aren't any tutorials on customs either.

However your best bet on building the 10th's screwdriver is a lathe, metal tubing (thick but enough room for a slider), either perspex or an acrylic rod that you have to drill a hole in (for the wires to go up to the emitter) and a few other things including patience.

It'll get quite expensive in the long run. Which is the MAIN reason I bought the Character Optioins toy and just modified it to be a bit more accurate (Just didn't shorten it and the blue strip on the side is a bit wider than it should be).

As far as your custom is concerned. Well, you can create it from any materials you'd like, remember this is your design. But the first thing that needs to be done is have a plan for it (work it out on paper first!!!). And as far as the electronics go, a simple solution would be to gut a CO toy and use those electronics. There are some tutorials on YouTube about soldering electronics. Just don't know if they're good enough as I've never watched them!

as a sonic modder...in regard to making tutorials or step-by-steps...at least for me, it takes sooo long and so much effort and concentration to do such, that at the very least, one gets too wore out to wanna spend the time to make a video or web page about how things progressed, heh. Also, the fact that sometimes things happen where you have to improvise here and there, and as well, after so many steps, you sometimes forget how you got to that point, heh...
