Hello all, first post since introducing myself. I am hoping to scratch build a type 2 "cobra phaser" from Star Trek TNG. I have found lots of good reference images, but am having trouble finding dimensions. If anyone can point me to a reference that would be wonderful. Also hoping to give it lighting effects.

Best Regards,

There were a few different iterations of the Cobrahead phaser.
Which season of TNG Cobrahead are you hoping to get dimensions for?

Hoping to build one from
season three. The angular one before the sleek boomerang. It is about where I am at watching it on Netflix
:)

As I mentioned there were three slight different iterations of the Cobrahead phaser, I wasn't getting confused with the Dustbuster or Boomerang phaser.
I will see if I can get persmission from the owner of a photo showing the 3 different variations of the Cobrahead to post here.

I spoke to the guy who took this photo and he was happy for me to post it here, I annotated the photo with indications of the various iterations.

Good luck with your build.

There was also this interesting variation

I've heard both. I've heard that it was a prototype that was not used and I've also heard that it was a prototype that they didn't make many more of, but that they used it for filming none the less.

From what I understand, that larger one with the multi color meter is a hero prototype that Ed Miarecki made one, or two of. That style had internal non-replaceable rechargeable batteries and extra green LED chaser circuit in the tip. Rick Sternbach's later went to auction. Never used on screen. More info:
