Help with resin casting

Hi

I made a Vera (from serenity, not firefly) and i wanna cast it for a couple of friends.
I have never done anything like it before.

from researching here and elsewhere i have a rough idea of what i need

vacuum machine, vacuum containers, silicone rubber mix, moulding clay and silicone mould release.

to make the moulds.
-i assume for the size i am making i will need to make a wooden box.. what type of wood is best?

and for the resin.
obviously the resin, universal mould release, and tint

a few questions tho

anyone in australia done this, and where do i find all the resins/clay/silicone/tint/and releases

and breand recomendations

also what volume does 1kg of silicone make?
and what volume does 1L of mixed resin make? (does it shrink or expand?)
given the size, what is the best way to hold the mould halves together?

and any other advice, thanks

No no no.... you have already overcomplicated. PM me this is easier than you think! I do this for a living. Also send, or post a pic of what is to be molded/ amd casted.

Molding something that large will present many interesting problems.

My advice, learn on something smaller.

i do plan on starting something smaller

obviously i am not gonna waste a truck load of materials for a first try

i was planning on doing a few runs on random household objects first

but as i plan on doing the larger item, better advice be focussed on that, rather than say, a key

do i make sense?

and PM sent

i will, it is still in a few pieces

just remember tho, when i do post, i live in australia

i can't get my hand on ANY airsoft parts AT all... so it is basicly "australian accurate"
