Help with identifying Trim for Scabior Costume

Not sure if trim is the right word, but I'm looking for a suitable material for the frayed edges and button surrounds on his waistcoat, as seen in the attachment. Its like a raw, rough, slightly frayed look.

I've been looking around but can't find anything suitable for the life of me. Even to use as a base and then fray it myself.

Any Ideas?

Are you sure it's a trim and not the actual vest fabric hat has been frayed?

It's the seams inside out, then frayed... Places like the GAP and Ambercrombie charge extra for that worn-out look.
