For those that have been around for a while. It was believed that Wedge's X-Wing Helmet had gray markings. We now know that they were actually green.

I am not a great painter so I want to know if there is an easy way to change the color.

My thinking was to mask off the areas that needed to be changed from gray to green and foam brush over the area with a watered down acrylic green paint. Brushing on and wiping on in several thin layers till the area looks green enough. It is my hope that by doing this, the previous weathering and inconsistencies will still be in place.

Thoughts?

not related to your question, but that helmet on the right, isn't that Dewback Wing forum's logo?

Going lighter over darker is always tricky. If you mask everything off with painters tape, and then
use thinned acrylic like you mentioned, you run a risk of having the paint seep under the tape
unless the edges are burnished down perfectly.

If you masked everything off, then sprayed light misting coats with a green color, there would be
less chance of that happening. But I think either way, you'll have to redo some of the weathering.

would this Pappy guy also have an alter ego called MJF? :p

anyway, is the Dewback forum still active? I used to be a member, but lost track of it over the years..............

We no longer run the Role Play site but there is a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/DewbackWing

also if you are interested, some of the old rap stories were converted into comic form by a member: http://td501.comicgenesis.com/d/20061012.html

the old prop board is still around but it is basically utilized as archived info: http://propreplicas.yuku.com

and an old wiki page we made an attempt at: http://dewbackwing.wikia.com/wiki/Dewback_Wing_Wiki

As already mentioned, mask and paint in light coats.

When I did mt CORSEC helmet I used a green primer that was darker than my final coat.
I used steel wool to wear through the top coat to show the wear in paint to the primer layer.
