Hello all....

I have a 1:1 bust of a famous person and it has a simple
wig

and tonight we have begun cutting with curved scissors the openings for the eyes (nice plastic dolls eyes) to be put in.

This is silicone backed with foam and gives the silicone backing about 1/4"

  1. What kind glue is ok to use for the eyes and how do I mount them?
  2. What is safe to cean up painted silicone? soap and water? or ?
  3. Can a standard make-up pencil be used on silicone for eyebrows etc.?
  4. Can liquid eyeliner be used?
  5. What brand or specific type of eyeliner is safe to use and reccomended?
  6. What kind of brushes do you masters use?? (C'mon Howard, Steve, Bob?)
  7. What kind or brands of paints can be used to paint silicone?
Please oh please! You all shall be rewarded in prop heaven fer'sher!
Help me to get'er dun!

Best Regards
Tom

right, where to start.

to paint silicone, you need to make your own silicone paint or buy som fuse fx paint but that would only work if the silicone is platinum.

the easiest way to make silicne paint is to get clear silicne chaulk ( the same stuff you use in bathrooms) you then need to thin it down with a solvent. I use petrolium dissilate (naptha) but you can use toluline or bestine too. I found the easiest way to get naptha is to buy white spirit from teh hardware store, check the UN number on the label, if its
un1268 then your good to go.

thin the silicne down till its like water, probably about 8 parts solvent to 1 part silicone, this is then your paint base.

you can use artists oil paints to tint your paint base to make you colours then its just a case of your prefered painting method. I favor a chip brush and sponge mainly, paint of your colour, then stipple the sponge over to break up the colours or if you want to use an airbrush, then a pasche is great for this. Just make absolutly sure you use a respirator with the correct filters, you really dont want to be getting this on your lungs.

you may have problems with the paint adhering as its always best to paint silicone "fresh" but if you wash it down with IPA first, it should help.

if you need any more help, feel free to drop me a pm
