Help on Mark 7 Back flaps

Can someone explain to me how this part would lay on the Mark 7 back piece?

Im not sure you can use the flaps when youre modelling from such thick foam. You can kind of see how the flaps would fit if they were flush, as the top rounded edges visible in your pictures line up.

Sorry though im not sure how to resolve the issue you have as im not familiar with the Mk7 suit
