Help me get Warner Bros. to read my GOONIE Sequel script!!!

I know im 6 months late to this, but i signed it And so did my wife. And I'll probably get a few friends. I love the idea of someone other then the usual paid writers be given a chance. Im a little shocked at all the negativity that was posted by some. There is always a chance it could happen. I actually have 2 family members in hollywood. Another dear friend has been in over 50 movies. Ive spent many hours over the years asking questions about movie making, stars, hehind the scenes etc. and i firmly believe that yes, you need to know someone to do anything in this business. But its not absolutely impossible. Not at all. Countless "little guy" men and women got a chance perusing something they loved by not giving up. Im sure there are other factors involved like agencies or joinin some sort of group, but its not completely out of the question. Everyone has to start somewhere. I think it's awesome that one of the rpf members wrote a script for a sequel to one of my favorite childhood movies and id love to see him have a chance. Im currently at page 80 of the script. Even if i think it sucks, i believe relicmaker should still get a chance for not giving up and following a dream. Ive lived my whole life like that. Sometimes it wasted my time but the times it didnt, the rewards were huge. And i dont just mean money, houses, cars etc. Go for it relicmaker, dont give up. Just remember id like to watch a few shoots or maybe be written in somewhere if it works out lol. Pm me and ill pass along a contact that may help

I mean, should he get a chance? Yeah, maybe. I dunno. I haven't read it, and I don't know the guy.

But the issue is that, no matter how many signatures a petition gets, the studio's legal team is gonna put the kibosh on reading the script unless it comes through "proper channels" so as to insulate the studio from legal blowback.

The scenario they want to avoid is the one from Anderson v. Stallone. This case arose when a guy had sent in a script to Sly Stallone (or the studio -- I forget which), for a sequel to Rocky III, where Rocky would go to Russia to fight a Russian dude. Or something to that effect. The script was rejected, and Sly wrote the script for Rocky IV...which happened to have some similar details. Anderson sued Sly, claiming that Sly had infringed his copyright on his Rocky IV treatment. Sly had to defend himself in court over this. Now, the court ultimately ruled that it didn't matter which came first -- Anderson's Rocky IV or Sly's -- because Anderson's Rocky IV was itself an infringing work (as an unlicensed derivative work), and therefore Anderson was entitled to squat. But it still cost Sly and the studio money and time to defend the case.

This is one reason why people go "through channels." They get an agent, they get the agent to submit their stuff to studios, and maybe one of them bites. But none of that happens if the script just shows up with, like, a petition stuck to it. You need some kind of "in" to get it read.

I'd say if you want to do is find a way to break into Hollywood, maybe start a GoFundMe to hire yourself an agent. Maybe the petition signers will back your efforts there, too. Granted, a good agent will want to see that you've got genuine talent, but if you really think you do, go for it!

I'm just using the petition as another tool to get it "out there" and seen. I know this petition isn't going to be the one thing that gets this script into the right hands, but it may help at least the tiniest bit. ;)

I actually know one of the Goonies. He likely wont touch the script due to legalities but its likely his brother would read it. Oddly enough the brother in question is also in the film as well as done voice overs for the original film.

Here's a couple of hero props I drew for the main props used in the script.

The Shortsword Key, and the Spyglass:

Your best bet would be to get yourself an agent and have him/her submit it for you, that way it's all being done through they system which is about the only way you're going to get your script accepted unless you become a well established screenwriter/director/producer at which time you could just talk to the studio(s) directly. The only other likely way to get your script looked at is seeing if Warners has an outside script submission process where an outsider with no prior experience and/or representation can submit a script without it being tossed in the trash as soon as it arrives.

This. Increasing your visibility and fan support won't mean diddly to WB's legal department. They probably have policies and procedures in place already that require a script received not through proper channels to be filed away unopened or logged as received and then destroyed. They don't care if you have a lot of fans. They don't care if everyone on the Reddit board for Goonies (which I'm sure exists) is in full support. You don't come stamped with the imprimatur of an agent, and they don't know you, so you're just another nobody to them, and therefore, a potential legal headache. The solution is to simply ignore your submission and/or destroy it so that you can never claim "They stole my idea!" and make trouble for them.

As I said, maybe transition the petition to a GoFundMe to pay for an agent.
