Helmet Comparison - Original Cyberman with Millennium FX replica

While down at the Dr Who "Creature Workshop", Millennium FX, I was able to carry out the following photo comparison between an original screen-used Cyberman Helmet, and one of the the new replicas made from Millennium FX (well mine in fact).

The MFX "replicas" are in reality effectively the same as the originals since theyre made from the same mould, by the same people, using the same materials, etc. etc. And most importantly theyre only produced 6 months after the originals were done, not 30 years - so issues over fettled tumbelhomes etc :lol

In all of these pics, the REPLICA is LEFT, the ORIGINAL is RIGHT.

As you can see from these photos, there is no "physical" difference between the original and replica and tbh I wasn't expecting to see any since theyre both 1st gen from originalmoulds etc. etc., but its still great to see an exact 1:1 structural match.

Colour and finish wise there is a slight difference, although we need to remember that we are dealing with an original screen-used helmet that's been used in both Cyberman stories in series 2. Specifically this helmet was the "crying" helmet where you see an oil tear dripping from the left eye of the cyber Yvonne Hartman.

The composition of the resin the helmet is manufactured from is exactly the same, the same quantity of Aluminium powder to resin. However as detailed elsewhere on my site the originals were polished with "Zeebo" black fireplace grate cleaner, which replaces the blue hue with a more silver look - although bear in mind the black comes off on the hands every time you handle it

I think you'll all agree its pretty impressive.

wow, thanks so much, especially for the pics of the inside clips on the screen used, those will even help in converting a voice helmet. One quick question, with the clip inside pushing on the pin, what stops the pin from falling out the other side, is it just an aluminum rod or is there some kind of stop on the inside for it? Thanks.

Hi Kylash327,

As far as I could tell nothing is stopping the pin fall out. The one mod the Millennuim FX people wish they had done to the clip was to put a spring on it so it's always "ready" to accept the clips from the back piece. Otherwise somethimes you have to manually pull the pin out a bit so the lugs arent obscured (like in this pic)

Note that the left lug in the pic above has been added by me digitally as the original had this missing following wear and tear on-set
