Hellboy Prop: Broom's Box. Need info.

I am zero skilled with woodwork , but with Adam´s help planes it is question of time (or hiring a carpenter) to get one done. It is an amazing prop that could be used also to display the fantastic lisenced props skeltoncrew studio is releasing.

Well, not perfect but good enough, I think, once stained and weathered.

Thanks to Contec for the line art of the logo!

I used a circle jig on my Dremel router to do the outer ring. Then I did all the straight lines by clamping a straightedge parallel to the line to be routed and then sliding the flat edge of the base plate along the straightedge. That left only a few short, curved lines to do free hand.

Just use sandpaper to knock down those edges, so it becomes more rounded.

Contec,

Yes, lots more sanding!!

r1racing,

The Dremel router has the capability of cutting a circle by itself but I wanted the circle jig for added precision. I made two passes with a narrow bit 1/16" apart and then chiseled out the strip in between to try to make it look more like hand work.

Now for the text…

Looks pretty darn good to me! Can't say a CNC would have done any better!

Went looking for that logo myself last night...have some extra African Mahogany laying around and a small box with logo and lettering sounded fun ;)

here you go...Logo2.jpg

Thanks! Found a few last night, but yours is far and above in accuracy to the original prop box photo earlier in the thread. I had thought to vector trace that photo, but always appreciate saving a step and especially time.

I've got a Nautilus-themed table, a Little Mermaid-themed Harp, and an Earth's Core-themed Mantle currently in progress...so extra time is a good thing!

Thanks again :D

Dremel 650 - Fresa HSS 3,2 mm: Amazon.es: Bricolaje y herramientas

Text ironed onto lid (ironing the reversed laser printed pattern onto the wood worked a lot better for me than acetone) in preparation for............... carving......burning.......etching?? Not sure yet. Contec, any advice?

Adam has said that the text and logo looked like it had been lasercut and then carved out with a dremel or something. Burning would not look good because the box is suppost to be "old" So spend some time with carving it out...or etch.

Engraved with the tip of a 90° V bit in the router and then the fine strokes added with the tip of a cone shaped steel cutter. A little Weather-It added for the photo.
