Hellboy locator functions question

I'll soon be constructing a Hellboy belt locator for someone. I have two kits, so parts are no problem.

I would like to add electronics to make it work as in the film. My problem is, I can't really see what it's supposed to do! :$

Is this correct: the agent (eg Red) has one, and his handler has one which is presumably paired with it? Are the lights both normally off?

Then when the agent is in trouble they press it, and what happens? The handler's light blinks, and the handler presses the button to acknowledge?

Also - which part does he press? The light itself, or the grooved part in the middle? The two 'roll bars' look as if they ought to move, but do they?

Sorry to ask all this but I couldn't really make it out from the film. Help!

Hellboy's locator is red, and Abe's is blue, and I believe that all the other agents just have a whitish opaque lens (not exactly sure what color shows up when the light is on).

To activate/deactivate the locator, you slide the "double bars" up/down.

Thanks, that's a great start! :thumbsup

I suppose I'll just have to study the films again closely and try to pick up the rest. Thanks again for the help.

If I were you, I'd use the two bars connected to a slide switch to activate the LED, then I'd use a concealed micropush switch beneath the corrugated button to activate the sound.
I've got a copy of the sound in wav format if you want it? I ripped it from the scene in Hellboy 2 where Liz shuts off her locator during the scene where they are looking for the Tooth Fairies.

I just watched the film and im 99% sure the grooved button is pressed to switch it on and off. The bars seem to be there to protect the LED against hungry toothfairys :)

Fantastic! So do the 'rollbars' move out of the way or are they fixed?

And is the corrugated button just a dummy?

Oops, I guess I wasn't clear in my original post... I meant that you slide the bars out of the way so that you can push the colored dome. :wacko

EDIT: I see that Propazoid has the hero Hellboy locator and has chimed in. :thumbsup

im actually attempting to build the same thing. except instead of just adding the light, im using pieces from the "Loc8tor" tracking system. Im adding one of the loc8tor tags inside the metal locator. so when im lost, i press a small switch in the locator, it blinks and someone else will have a the handheld tracking device that leads you to the locator tags.

check it out, its easy to modify to put inside the locator, since the tags it brings are very tiny.

also, i just realized i used the word locator a bazillion times sorry lol!
