First Post here! Been registered a while now but just lurked around getting to know how things run and generally being nosey ^ ^

Well I thought i'd post a topic on this now i'm finally getting round to having a go at this costume.

My main issue is making the prosthetics, I'm going to get a friend to help me with a life cast of my face, and work on the details that way, and cast that so that I can form a prosthetic from that, but does anyone have any advice on what I should use for the actual prosthetic itself?

I've heard about foam-latex and silicone but i'm not aware which would be the most cost effective and durable (need to get more than 1 wear out of it, as its for a weekend).

So I guess thats my issue at the moment, as I'm going to work on the prosthetics first and see how It looks on myself, and if its all looking good, then onto the costume.

Also, does anyone have any good shots of the costume itself? (i.e. the cloak/robes)

go with silicone for the prosthetic. Will last longer and alot easier to make. Foam latex takes quite a bit of stuff to make it right, and you have to make sure you have the right temperature and other things. I suggest ecoflex silicone or gel 10 silicone.

Hi Kem,

I've only just signed up on the RPF. Are you still working on this?

If so, you may be interested in this thread as I've been working on a Voldemort prosthetic using silicone so I've tried to share key bits of the process

(Note:
I'm new to prosthetics myself and so I've been using Neill Gorton's DVD to help me through the process (I couldn't have even drempt of doing it without them). As a result, and out of respect for him & his DVD, I've deliberately not detail every step as that wouldn't be fair to him - I've just tried to highlight some of the key steps - as a result, don't use it as a "how to" guide ;) Hopefully you'll still find it interesting and helpful though.)

I agree with "thedarkone" - go with Silicone.
However, I've used Platsil Gel10 (dont worry if you dont know what that is - I didn't when I started!).... but since starting the project something called Platsil Gel00 has come out and I've had people recommend I used that as it's stronger and just as flexible (unfortunately I'd already got my supplies by then)

You may also find this handy which is my build thread on the Effects Lab site -

If you're still working on the project, feel free to shout if you have any questions.
