BTW- Since everyone thought he needed a friend, I started this last night
Tough to tell from a pic, but it's BIG. Height is over 15" and that's leaning back like that. Still super-early and needs a lot of clean-up, detailing and texture, but I'm pretty happy with the forms and shapes so far.

Actually, by "last night" i actually meant the night before.... I started late on the 18th and did some work yesterday on the 19th.... I was posting at 3 am my time, so to me that was still "the 19th" to me (does that makes sense?).
Either way, that's about 8 hours of time into the sculpt. (One night and some time during the day.)
Most times I work over a bust or armature. For this one I used styrofoam to block out a basic shape and save a lot of weight. Ever with that it's over 30lbs of clay. He's bigger than he looks.

Well you certainly managed to capture the essence of the man. Not someone I would care to meet. Not entirely sure how he managed to persuade his victims to be patients, with that face.
Forgive me if I am incorrect, as PHArcivist said I do not know you. Looking at work, I am not sure but it appears to be completely recreations. I do understand the desire to recreate something as best as we can, I love to make props. However from time to time its nice to make something never "really" seen before. Do you ever do your own original concepts or interpretations? I ask because I have never seen a Bothan in Star Wars and I really Hope the TV series has a Bothan character.
BTW I love the glass display cases, its a very classy way to display your work.

Updated the walrusman pics... gonna sit on it for a few days and then look again with fresh eyes and make some tweaks before molding. I've added the head veins and lumps as well as the skin texture. I wanna be careful not to make it "too clean" cus I think that'd lose a lot of the character of the original mask.
Thanks for the kind words and those cabs are great for the money. Ikea's got some great deals.
I've done a lot of original characters as puppets, and a ton of sketches and such, but I've not yet done any interpretive life-size, realistic sculpts. Definitely would be fun and I'm sure I'll do some soon. I've got a few (non-SW) ideas kicking around.

This guy always reminded me of someone and I could never figure out who...
I finally realised he reminds me of a really deranged version of Burgess Meridith as Popeye's dad in the Popeye movie, either that or just a freaky Popeye.

made some final tweaks and finished up the sculpt on walrus. I'll start a new thread once I get the mold done and a test casting finished up

I'm gonna do a few airbrushed layers of pink, beige and gray to replicate that veiny look to the tusks and then hit it with a few layers of gloss. The head's going to be finished with layers of different grays and some subtle brown tones stippled on (like I did for the Walrusman hands I did last month.) Gonna try to match the screen-used ANH look and not the airbrushed Holiday Special look.
I've actually got someone who's going to be working with me on these. I'll post some more on that once we get a proto painted and haired
