HCG ALIENS HERO M41A PULSE RIFLE - Modification Thread

So I took Tommin's idea and added real set screws to my MCG Grenade Launcher endplate. I bought 4mmX 6mm socketed set screws from Home Depot, drilled out the existing holes in the HCG Grenade launcher with a 1/8" drillbit and screwed the setscrews in place. Took less than 5 mins but made the gun look a little better!

Sweet!!! I'm liking it even better!! :) Sorry for the delay on that one screw type. Will double check on it when I get back home. BTW, it (the GL front block) was an SD product, IIRC. At least, that is the one that I have one my own pulsey.

Bit of a bump on this as it'd gone quiet. :)

Took a pic of the inside of the mag well, to see what the end of the spas cage/GL block looks like.

Seems to have been finished/sawn off pretty roughly, with what looks like a slightly offset alignment compared to the slot/guide rail for the magazine:

Over exposed the pic to get the inner detail to show better. :)

Can't see any fixing point or similar, so it must be further forward in the shroud.

Waits for Matsuo to post his shroud removal pics. ;)

Sorry I've been very sick with bronchitis, not having too much fun right now with it.

Stand by... need to upload pix to photobucket.

Here's a pic of the GL taken apart while you wait.

Great pics Matt, at last i can see inside!

It looks like theres quite a lot of room in the mag area which is good as i need to get my electronics in.

Thanks for the pics.

The glue lugs as spoken of.

The red arrows are lugs that need to be ground off.
The blue arrows are locating lugs which should not be ground off.

But all arrows are where you need to pay particular attention to while prying the gun apart.

Holy crap, Mr. Andrews - you didn't overdo it AT ALL. I think that looks AMAZING.

Matt - may I ask, was the HGC GL trigger spring loaded? The (FANTASTIC) one you sold me just sorta' rattles around - and I can open it just enough to see the assembly, but I can't tell for certain. If I could make it spring back into position - it would be good enough for me (not a Goonies reference. Okay...maybe a Goonies reference)

I just sent PayPal on a Spatcave Pulse rifle (LED set to 86 - 'cause I'm wittyyy!), and plan to utilize the HGC GL in the build, and acquire a metal stock, barrel, and barrel mount (talked to SD Studios about it, but he seemed unsure if his versions would work on the Spat (or maybe he was very clear, and I'm just super dumb), so I'm doing a little looking around before I buy those parts.

I've also got a line on Tommy Gun parts, selector/safety greeblies, and the like, so I'll grind off some of that stuff and replace it with the real deal.

Is there anything that anyone here would recommend should be done to the kit to make it more accurate? I'm looking at the barrel vent thing (not sure what the significance of eight vs ten holes is - is one of them deemed more accurate, or was it just a production variant?), and obviously the stock - and I just bookmarked the thread for the great sling - but is there more I should be doing?

I can't spend a ton of cake on this - but I don't see any reason this project can't cost around $400.00 all in ($200.00 for the kit, $50.00 for the Matsuo HCG GL, $150 or so for anything else). I'm pretty confident in my modeling/painting skills (I own no airbrush, but I am the master of the rattling can and the Dremelcraft). I may take photos of the exciting build should anyone be interested.

Thanks in advance for your advice and feedback. I love this place so much.

Also - Oh my GOD, Art Andrews - your rifle looks SO GOOD.

The GL trigger is not spring loaded.

If you go very carefully around the seam with a knife the pieces will pop apart.

You can drill a hole into the trigger group body, notch the top of the trigger and wedge a spring in there.

Hey Matt,

Thanks so much for your continued assistance and perseverance with this. I too have been chomping at the bit to see the insides of the HCG shrouds but, didn't want to rush you as I know you have been a busy fella.

Oddly enough, the locking lugs are almost exactly where I expected them to be. I'm still leaning heavily on the side of drilling from the outside instead of heating the gun but I trust your expertise.

Sweet!! If you ever have an extra one of these left over, lemme know. I'd love to take a shot at modifying it, as it is. ;)

The ten hole PR was the Bapty prototype. Pics of it were sent to top brass for approval. It was also the one screen used as the Ripley 'trainer'. At least, that is my understanding of it. ;)
