Question Have the mods stopped updating the ban log permanently? (answered)

Ive noticed that a few folks were banned recently and weren't on the log. However I do remember Montagar saying that they don't always update it.

Just curious as the ban log updates have just stopped.

It is just not a top priority for us.

Montagar is hard at work, dealing with a number of issues including an insane backlog of spammers as well as the deluge of day to day reported posts.

I have actually been off-site for the past couple of weeks, working very hard with Gino on the vb 4 site redesign.

On top of that, we are having one of the most active months we have had in a long time here on the site as well as on facebook (We are getting to close to the 15,000 fan mark!)

We just have a lot of irons in the fire that will serve the members and make their experience here even better, so tasks that focus on people who are no longer a member of this community tend to be pushed to the back burner.

The ban log is more of a courtesy to our members, just to let them know what is going on, and when other matters are pressing, updates like that take a back seat. We will update when things slow down a bit.

...also, when it comes to sockpuppets (which has been the majority of the most recent bannings), we don't usually bother with posting them anymore.

Thanks guys. I though I just missed a new policy or something where that thread was closed down.

I like seeing the sockpuppet bans because then I know which ex-members are trying to continue on the RPF and I can look out for clues and posting styles that might reveal a sockpuppet.

I think I figured it out, but a "sock puppet" is an account created by a member in addition to their original account, yes?

We also use it to cover situations where an existing member allows a banned member to access the RPF through their account.
