£50 quid was way too expensive for the toy.
Now the price has dropped, i might buy one or two more myself and just put them away incase i decide to do another one in a walking pose one day.
My kids can have the figures that comes with them. Those go for around £8 alone and they are always buying star wars figures.
I'll get back to you all with the Tamiya grey spray code, as its a nice shade of grey for the model.

You guys in the US and UK are lucky. Anytime I see anything on the shelves here, its gone in a few days...at full price! The only thing that would ever make it to a sale is the Clone Trooper Helmet and Blaster.

I ordered two of these off of Amazon.com but $50.00 is about the lowest price they have.
Can you post a website where you are getting the paint? I'm wanting to paint both of mine and my Hasbro AT AT. I can't seem to find a proper grey spray paint anywhere. All primer greys seem too dark and metallic is too silvery.

Keith, your idea to use guitar strings as the electrical conduits is a stroke of genius. I think I am going to try that with mine. Two questions--will a guitar string unravel when it's cut into small pieces? And two-- how are you attaching them to the plastic? Is there some epoxy that will stick to plastic as well as metal? Or are you doing something totally different?

What are you using for the rail around the top? Is it just a piece of aluminum wire that you have bent using needle nose pliers or what? How are you connecting the supports to it? Are you soldering the supports to the railing? Can you solder aluminum? Would just a metal coat hanger work? I'm thinking about doing this mod but am unsure how to do it.I am unskilled with metal craft.
Also, where are you getting the sytrene sheets for the panels on the side of the 'head'? Will just "for sale" signs that you can buy at Walmart work? That's another mod I want to do. I seriously doubt I can do the scratch built guns you have done but some of these mods I want to do.
When you cut off the 'toe' how did you reconnect it inside the foot housing?

What about the 'neck'? Are you planning on doing any mods there?
One more question--what exactly is wrong with the factory made "knee covers"? Why did you remake those? I don't know how you did it, but I sincerely doubt I can get those off without screwing up the whole thing. Just wondering. Don't get me wrong, your mods there definately look better than the way it comes.

I thought I was pretty good until I found this board:lol I am a rank amateur compared to you guys. But I do appreciate the things I learn here. There are so many other boards where people feel they need to hoard their techniques. Thank you so much for sharing.

I was also looking at some pics of the studio model and I notice on the 'toe' it is actually a 'double claw' instead of the single claw that comes with this version. I have two of the old AT STs that were released back in the day and they are the 'double claw'. Also, the base of the claw seems to be more trianguler shape rather than the rectangular shape that this one has. From the studio pics i have (and I could be wrong) but they look like the more triangular shape from the old Kenner version. Have you thought about swapping them out? I am using the "From Star Wars to Indiana Jones: The best of the Lucasfilm Archives" book as my info for studio models to make these comparisons. Just wondering.
I love modding these toys because they are never correct and I, by no means, have the funds to spend several hundred or even thousands of dollars for actual studio scale versions of these (as my girlfriend used to put it) "sci fi doo-hickeys". I was raised modding stuff with duct tape and Elmers glue. LOL My first mod was back in 1977 when I took a 12' GI Joe and wrapped him in black electrical tape and the in white football tape to try to turn him into a Stormtrooper........God, I'm old.
