Well I had been working on this bad boy a couple months ago and have not worked on it in a long time.

I have since done more with. BATTLE DAMAGE and other things. Not really a clone helmet anymore. More like a bounty hunter. I'll be sure to post pics soon. I was thinking of a navy paint job with yellow stars and a moon.

I think I'd be totally B.A.:cool

Any comments are welcome, positive or negative.

Looks like you started on it a couple years ago. :) It's looking good! Can't wait to see it finished!

Looks good. I haven't touched mine in a couple weeks. Its so damn flexible that I keep cracking the bondo. Now that the templates for the visor are in place, I think I'm going to put it back together and see if that gives it a better hold. If not, then I may coat the inside with something to make it more solid.

I've been wondering how people have been modifying them. Seems to be made of polypropylene or polyethylene or some thang ding... something that glues, paints and putties wouldn't want to stick to. Any good work arounds yet?

Has anyone tried strips of styrene with styrene glue, instead of Bondo?
If the helmet is (a type of) styrene, then styrene would be the preferred material for add-ons, where possible.

I use a product from 3M; part number 8115. It is panel bonding adhesive. NASCAR is gluing their car body panels with it now. It sticks to almost everything; including Hasbro Helmets; and can be drilled and tapped as well. It sands very well into a fine powder and does not roll off like alot of plastic repair materials. Here is the kicker; the applicator gun cost $375 and the product is about $40 a cartidge. One will do 2 - 3 Hasbro's. I also used it to glue together ABS; urethane( car bumpers) and metal to metal.

I own an auto collision shop so it is somthing we keep on hand. If any one would like to know anymore about the stuff shoot me a PM.

That sounds like what I did with mine...

Came out pretty nicely I think:

careful handling while doing the filler, then molding it, then making a resin copy of it :)

i found that a layer of primer for plastics first, before the bondo, helped quite a bit.

i also glued all of my seams on the inside, and eventually filled the entire thing with spray foam!

You should cut a slot in your helmet so that the range finder will slide down into it. That would look good.

that's not how rex's helmet was done though :)

his was just bolted onto the outside of it. it looks sloppy, but that's how it's supposed to be.

How I did mine was three strips of styrene on one side, two on the other. Yeah I know it sounds uneven but for some odd reason it was flush. Styrene glued right on to the lens. I didnt even take out the lens. If you guys want to feel free to post your helmets. I am curious to see them.:thumbsup

Thanks,

Rock on. It looks VERY clean!
I'll be sure to get pics of the inside of my helmet on here. It's completely gutted so I can see. I'll most likely place some bike helmet padding in there.

Anymore hasbro WIPs.

Thanks,
Gordon

are the only (big) things wrong w/ these compared to the movie ones the visors?

they are longer front to back than they ought to be. i don't mind that myself, but other clone folks hate it. this would take a LOT of work to do anything about.

the vent slots on the sides are wrong (should be 6, and they should start further back), but that's easily addressed.

they also don't come far enough around under your chin, which is also easily fixed.
