Has anyone tried this for a Cap Shield yet?

I've been looking into making a Captain America Shield and came across this Round Police Riot Shield. It's about 24" so the dimension is pretty good. I'm thinking with the right paint job, strap mounting and WWII US Garand Slings it would make a really nice shield. Question...Has anyone ever tried this, if so how was the process?
