I'm huntin' fur FOAM!!!!

Haven't found anything promising from anywhere but here. I'm trying to find foam to make a pred mask. Is this what I'm looking for? If not, where should I look? Every search for the stuff turns up family owned/indie furniture sites that sell scrap foam for crazy high prices...

Suggestions?

Sources?

Please, I need at least one REAL answer by tomorrow.

Also, if you mix accrylic paint with water to thin it out, does it still dry flexible?

I have an old sofa, but I'm using it.....

...as a sofa...

Well, thanks guys. I'm screwed for the week.

I'm sure at least someone in those 47 views knew what I was looking for.

I was (still) an upholsterer for years....what are you trying to do with the foam? You can purchase 1/2" or 1" foam sheets at Joan's if you are trying to mold it into a mask. Or contact a upholster's shop. If you desire a thick foam cushion (i.e. 5" and up thick, usually 24" X 24"), go to the shop and ask if they have any old cushion foam they have replaced. Alot of the time they will just give it to you just to get rid of it.

I used a regular electric knife (to carve turkeys) to cut the foam. The knife blades will stick to the foam as you are cutting, so use some sort of silicone spray on the knife blades to prevent binding.

You can also use headliner. This is the 1/4" foam with fabric on one side. This is the stuff you would put up on the ceiling of your auto.

For painting.....I have taken the 1/2" foam sheets and shaped it into a Muskateer hat. I painted it with spray paint. No thining. The paint absorbs into the foam and it doesn't cover well. If you are just going for a general color effect this will work, and it is still flexable. I would suggest using the headliner since it has a fabric cover which would take paint better and still be flexable. Also headliner comes in it's own color scheme to match the interior of autos.

3M makes a spray adhesive you can glue foam pieces together. Spray on both sides of your seam, let it get tacky, then press them together. Whallll Laaah....you have a unbreakable seam.

I hope this helps.

go to a fabric store and buy a couple of peices from them lightly glue togther and start chopping. thats all im gonna say. a fabric store

It's good I used that same foam to make my Godzilla costume's tail. Use contact cement to glue it together.

acrylic paint works well. I used it to paint my foam mask and the results are very nice. make sure to use plenty of base coats to build up rich color. switch to smaller brushes and add detail. This mask is made from uphostery foam which I picked up at wal mart in the craft section. glued using contact cement. the teeth are made of one small block of translucent sculpey baked then sanded. Cut two combs to make the quills and then glued in with more contact cement. Good luck.
