Has anyone made a Millenium Falcon chess table?

I'm pulling out all stops for reference to build the table. I'm making some progress on better film reference, but still have nothing to show for it yet.

I'm not itching to make it myself, but will if nobody else can make an essentially perfect match, I plan to do it.

I've received a lot of email about it so there is definite interest.

As for the details and my preferences, top has to be beautiful fiberglass, lights have to be right, keys: I really like aluminum for them personally, and the final pieces, I'm hoping we'll get more detail from better photo reference.

I'm here to help make it happen in any way possible.

Philip,
Are you looking to make/have made a "one-off" table for your own collection, or are you looking into having a run made?

I don't recall where I got this photo - I think it was on StarWars.com...

Note the Falcon game table on the right. It seems complete sitting in a workshop in the UK prior to the filming of ESB. Could this be the ANH table waiting to be refurbished? A new ESB table completed ahead of schedule?
It looks like a bunch of lights may be missing. I don't see the white rectangular shapes like the Disney one, but rather what could be the silver buttons/joysticks in micdavis' screencap.
I'm not sure exactly what we can determine from this photo.
The full size Probe Droid was filming in Norway before studio filming began (looks like it's being primered for paint here).
The Falcon main hold was filmed on the first day of studio shooting on March 13, 1979 (Stage 8) - so it's not unreasonable that the game table could be completed this early (if it's a recreation).

Can the white rectangles on the Disney table be seen onscreen in ESB?

A grab from ESB. Definitely more of those white things and blue AND amber lights.

Plus some screen grabs from a Youtube Video.

You can see where some of the white things have come off. Definitely ESB.

It looks to me that the actual playing surface is brushed alumimum with the black screened on and inset.

Does anybody know where the youtube video came from? It's easily the best detail of the table and getting the actual source video would be fantastic.

thoughts on the table pics so far.

In this photo from the Ken Waller youtube, there are clearly marks from three pieces that are no longer on the top, but once were:

In the ANH version of the table, there are three pieces in this same spot.
One explaination for this is the table is in fact the one from ANH and was modified for ESB. Clearly at some point this table had three things glued on at the spots where three items are shown in screen captures from ANH. I now also have a reference photo of the other end of this side that shows two round nubs that are in ANH but not on this table. The spot where one of them was can be seen in this other capture from the youtube video.

I think the other one is covered up by the new white things you see in the captures here.

I haven't seen any photo from the disney display that shows either the three pieces on the left or the two nubs on the right that they might have removed, so I'm guessing these glue spots were on there when the received it from LFL.

Since nobody has absolutely said the ANH table was destroyed, maybe the reason we see where these things were glued on still is because the table was the same one for both movies.

Thoughts on this?

I think your correct and that it is the ANH table refurbished. That would explain why the game table is sitting in the prop shop in the photo I posted above (no white ESB parts on it yet, but seemingly finished). In that pic there are also spots where the ANH round pieces were that line up with the glue spots you mentioned.

I would agree. Could very well be the same one. Afterall other stuff has survived.

And more HD Screengrabs from SW

Looking at this pic I would make the following statements:

1) The playing surface appears to be brushed aluminum.
2) The rest of the top is a medium to light graphite color.
3) The lights are all red on one side blue on the other (as stated)
4) 2 of the 3 'joystick controls' could be large rheostats and the left most 1 might be a chrome 'push-in' automotive cigarette lighter/accessory jack.

Also does anyone have any idea what Kenobi is holding in this shot?
Is he buckling his seat belt or is that some other piece of photographic equipment intended to look like sci-fi technology?
There is a similar chrome disc on 3PO's lap.

1) Yeah, there's a pic that shows pretty good detail of the top and it looks to be brushed aluminum, spun in a circle for the brushed look. Can't tell if the black is painted or not.

2) Those lights were "flat" for ANH, as stated before, and a more traditional stand up light in ESB. I haven't ever seen that kind of flat light before.

Aren't there small circular flat automotive reflectors like that?
They should be available in red and blue.

In fact...
here is a picture of a set of license plate screws 1" dia.

It'd be a simple matter to illuminate these. Cut away some of the metal backing and put a bulb beneath the table.

or maybe a nice push button

Anyone have an idea of the playing surface's diameter?

Here is a quick blowup I did of the detail bits from the screen cap. But what I need to high-res digital pics if there are any to be found, then I might be able to machine up these detail parts if someone wanted to go the ANH rout.
:cool

Actually, the detail parts on the far right look like the standard "Cone Knobs" that are found on a ton of costumes and props from SW and I happen to make those already.

From page one of this thread:

O.K. but ya see technically, that quote is not from page 1 but:
from an ancient RPF thread ages ago
Its existence on page 1 is more of a happenstance than a solid fact.
Perhaps you are familiar with the phrase 'a virtual certainty'?
This quote is not attributed to a person it merely exists.

....and I also want to say thank you, and I'm sorry
for being a dolt by not remembering I'd read that.
