Has anyone made a Millenium Falcon chess table?

Wow - this is very impressive. You have invested a ton into this and it shows. Very nice.

I'm curious (not questioning) how you got the original dimensions?

I'm almost ready to start my Falcon NAV chair, so I will need one of these too.

I wish I had original dimensions. What I ended up using was this information in this thread, holochess builders group, and my collection of photos I managed to gather from both fans and from our access to LFL photo archvies for our photo license (officialpix.com).

From that I scaled the best photos and tinkered with the 3d model till I was convinced the relationships were good and size was as well.

I had hoped to see the table at Disney, but it's still in storage and though I tried to get access, in the end, I couldn't wait any longer.

Wow! Very involved process for settling on a final method for the table top. It looks great. :)

If Chris is going to be involved with making the keys, they should come out practically perfect. I have one of his FPH Fett helmets and it was gorgeous right out of the box. :thumbsup

Thanks.

I hope Chris will make them. He is definitely my first choice on them.

bump...any new info?

Unfortunately I got word that Chris isn't going to be able to do the keys at the moment so I'm going to have to look elsewhere.

The mold of the table top and one piece is in the schedule at the fiberglass place.

I'm still working on the actual game playing surfaces. I spent the last week building a horizontal turntable to do them on so I could do the process without the lathe.

I think I have found the base column material, will know this week.

That's about it...

Wow, I just caught this thread, what a great project! I had never considered having a holochess table... before now.

Please keep us in the loop on parts for this. If I can afford it at all, it will, no doubt, have to be a kit.

Great work Philip! (and MicDavis, and the other folks who contributed!)

I have always wondered-
You know you can get those 'lazer etched' blocks of resin in some gifts shops. You know, the ones that have cars inside, that sort of thing.
Theres a shop on Brighton Pier that makes them for you 'while you wait'
Maybe you could scan in a sculpt of some of the chess 'monsters', and have them etched inside a block. If you then carved the block to the shape of the etch/monster inside the block, and lit it from the bottom, or with a black light, it would glow like a hologram .
Might look really pants, but could look really cool ?

Today I was able to get over and see the first fiberglass top pull from the table top mold.

They have really done a nice job on it. It wasn't quite finished but I'm leaving tomorrow for Celebration Japan, then Comiccon so I didn't want to wait two weeks to see it.

They still have to finish smoothing some bumps out on the perimeter and are glassing in a wooden ring on the bottom for attaching the base, as well as primer / sanding / primer / sanding.

For those who have asked about assembling the top themselves, I have asked them for a price for the individual pieces right out of the molds without all the joining and hand work.

After I get back, I'm going to start up a thread in the junkyard for the pieces so I can start making them available.

I've been very fortunate, as someone from the outside, to see this project come off the ground....and so far Fantastic work so far Philip :cheers...

I know Chris was deeply regretful that he was unable to do the keys at this time.

See you at SDCC, I'm sure allot more updates will start to come after you get back...:thumbsup

This table is looking awesome Philip!:thumbsup
I'm most likely going to have to buy one of these after seeing what's been done so far!:love

Guys, I was at his workshop a couple of weeks back to see the playing surfaces, and that was amazing in itself! The pictures he's posting does not do this prop any justice at all!

I scanned a few pages of this thread fist and didn't see this posted.

This guy had a mock-up of a chunk of the Falcon,

Yes, that's the Belgium Prop Makers piece from CE and through today, Celebration Japan. Fantastic work by those guys, though the table itself is far from accurate. I actually tried to visit with them about my table today, but they were very busy all during the show letting fans sit at the table and take photos. Their work is really amazing for fan efforts.
