Has anyone made a Millenium Falcon chess table?

I spent some time this week laying out the key and a shop neighbor here with a new prototype machine shop kindly turned my drawing into a 3D model in preparation for making me a sample. Here's what I have so far:

An update.

Here are the first master key samples I had made. Still tinkering with it a bit. I think it's close.

Next up, I'm looking for input on a piece that's on the ESB version of the table. It was added between movies.

It looks to me like a plastic panel adapter for a db25 connector. Mount the plastic part to a panel with the metal db25 cable adapter in it, plug in a cable. But, at almost 30 years ago, and built in the UK, I've been looking hard but haven't found it yet.

Philip, they look like the coin slots on vaders chest box..from old arcade games...at least that is what I thought when I saw the other pics. clsoe up it makes me wonder though...pretty wide for a quarter..

The coin slots on Vader are reported as Shilling slots. Also used on R2. Not really close at all to that white thing.

Electrical or electronic bezel clamp of some kind, I'd wager.

What happened to the revised table top dims.

And why did you change your mind?

Well, two things. One, I just had a fundamental math error. Seems I had 2 + 2 = 3 or something like that. The other, I started doing a section drawings through the keys and the numbers aren't coming out yet. The sketches / dimensions I got from the chess table yahoo group are not quite working with what I see in the pictures. I need to get back to the drawing and resolve the differences.

I should also mention the white plastic pieces are only necessary for the ESB version, which I don't personally care for. Mostly since I don't like the white things.

now that you mention it...since we have the holo chess pieces...we (I) want an ANH version..so no white pieces for me....

As for the keys, are you going to do them in a resin run as one long piece? or are we doing it individually? I think I counted 27(?) on one side..that is alot of keys...

Yeah, ANH for me as well. it even makes the lights much easier since they can be flat acrylic discs with an LED under each.

The keys need to be individually made and yes 27 x 2 = 54 per table. Once I have a master, I plan to get pricing for diecast keys. I guess they could be resin as well, though I don't plan to use resin myself.

Re: Has anyone made a Millennium Falcon chess table?

So, is this project dead?

I should be updating more I think.

Progress is being made, though slowly. I had anticipated being able to photograph the prop down at disney before I committed to dimensions on the table, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

I have finished drawing the table and should get to see it in 3d on Monday. I hope this will validate the dimensions. We have modified the keys while laying out the top. As soon as I have something more to show, I'll post it here.

Re: Has anyone made a Millennium Falcon chess table?

Mine went to the back burner. Too many other things going on.

Philip,
Still very interested in your progress on the table. :)

Re: Has anyone made a Millennium Falcon chess table?

I've finished the dimensions and a friend has prepared the 3d view and we compared it to the photos and I'm quite happy with it.

The drawings have been given to a furniture maker I know that is going to make the master for the top now. After that, it will be passed on for making the fiberglass tops. As the tops are likely to be the bulk of the cost, other than the keys if we make them in metal, after we get pricing on the tops I can begin to price it out and get a thread going in the Junkyard for interest.

Excellent.

Also, are we talking about a complete setup including playing surface, keys, slots and lights or are those items going to be handled as separate projects?
