Has any one modded Ezra's lightsaber toy

I have one for my son and planning on modding it. For his height there are some pretty inexpensive "non-brand" lightsabers on AliExpress or Amazon that I plan on buying for the blade and electronics/LED. I am going to replace the saber blade with a more realistic version.

Next I plan on repainting and weathering up the device.

My plan was to have this done before March so we could all go to Disneyland Season of the Force but now with the security changes I'm shooting for April at Legoland Star Wars Days.

Another thing that would be really awesome is to make the blaster part able to shoot nerf bullets

Let me know if it was difficult to change the parts. Do you have the Hasbro version? JK Sabers modded the Hasbro Version, looks pretty good even though it's not completely accurate.
