Harley Quinn Mallet!!! (pic heavy)

hey everybody! sadly, i had to abandon my last post for a Joker prosthetic, due to molding issues which i never got around to resolving. -le sigh- HOWEVER, i have started something new!!! a lovely friend of mine and i are teaming up for a small convention next month and im making her, as the title says, a new Harley Quinn mallet! the best part is shes fun-sized (don't call her short!!!) and the mallet is going to dwarf her. XD so, without further ado, here's what i got going on with it thus far!!!

(sorry this is such a big post and pic heavy but i was debating whether or not to post)
so, here are some progress pics from when i first started. the core of the mallet head is two small paint mixing buckets with styrofoam spacers to create a slot for the dowel rod handle, which is actually a recovered small flag pole that my roommate was going to toss out after someone stole our flag. stupid kids...
overtop of the mix buckets i attached some thin cardboard to make a even surface to build on and one top of that i cut up and glued a sleeping mat to bulk up the mallet head. cue some cardboard circles with come more foam mats for the endcaps and the base of the mallet head is done! but far from complete. XD

the handle is made from the salvaged flag pole dowel, complete with the rounded endcap. i wrapped the lower end of the handle with several feet of black paracord which i then taped off in sections and painted red to give it that harley coloration. craft foam formed the metal rings and then a bunch, and i mean a BUNCH, of red thread to make another hand hold mid-way up the shaft. i also have thus far painted up some extra bits that will decorate the mallet head once i finish it.

ok, this first post has turned out long enough, so ima end it for now. please, lemme know what you guys think!!!

:D

Did a little bit of work on the mallet head today, but forgot to snap pics before heading off to work. I'll try and nab some when i get home before crashing. XD anyways, using some wall stucco to smooth out the transition of the endcaps to the body of the mallet head. once they dry, I'm going to sand them down to smooth it all out and then on to sealing and prepping for paint!!!

AGGGHHHH!!!! yet again, i have forgotten to take any pics of the thingie!!!! I'm terribly sorry guys and gals, just got a crappy memory. anywho, i did some sanding to the stucco on the mallet head, getting it smoother. got a couple spots that need to be filled and then sanded back down and then i can go out and get the paints for sealing and priming. ugh, i so want to finish this mallet and show you guys but work and school keep me busy!!!!

Good Morning Everyone!!! Ok, so I snapped a few pics before I had to head to class this morning. I know it doesn't look like much, but here's what i was talking about with smoothing out the transition between the ends and the body of the mallet head. Got to fill in those low spots and then sand it again and then seal it! slowly but surely, getting there!!!
What do you guys think so far?

HEY EVERYONE!!! (or, the void) hope everyone had an awesome halloween. obviously, didn't get anything done to the mallet this weekend, due to shenanigans and turning one of my friends kids into zombies. (yet again, forgot to take pics!!!! i need a assistant that does nothing but takes pics...) and then i cobbled together a quick last minute genderbent Tank-girl and an even more last minute Jet-girl costume for my friend so we could go trick-or-treating for unicef and then check out my comic shops annual comic party. (pics were taken by my friend and as soon as i get access to those i shall post!!!)
Hoping to get some mallet work done this weekend, pending fixing an error from a costume for the convention later this month. (shoulda ordered material to make it myself instead of trying to order a cheap costume...)
:D remember to smile everyone!!!!

ok, got my first coat of primer on the mallet head this week, in between rain showers. so, you know what that means!!! more pics!!! also, including pics of another costume piece I'm working on for my friend. Enjoy!!!

the pic of me is to reference the height. i stand 5ft 10in (approx 178cm) and the mallet comes to my chin. my friend i made this for comes up to my collar. XD

i'll post some pics from the con after this weekend so you guys can see our costumes as well!!! till next time!!!
