Hand Sculpted Rancor Tooth Tenel Ka Lightsaber

Inspired by this thread, i decided to give a try at it. Here's a sneak peak at my Rancor Tooth saber, based off the "Tempest" cover.

EDIT: 95% finished pics! Havent decided which D ring I like yet, would like your guy's opinions. And i need to install the emitter, its just sitting there for the photos, not attached inside yet. I think I got the paintjob matching the painting fairly closely. I wanted to keep it accurate to the painting, but still add a Dring and a few buttons, so I put them on the opposite side than shown in the painting, or where her fingers are covering, so the buttons could feasibly be there.

EDIT for broken photos:

Great dude. You should recast some for selling. I would be definitely into it ^^

Re: My Rancor Tooth Saber - PICS ADDED!

thanks guys :) Any opinion which "D" ring looks better? I still cant decide.

Re: My Rancor Tooth Saber - PICS ADDED!

I think the "twisted" one is perfect. Fits the saber, the girl and just adds another special tough to it.:thumbsup
Just my 2 cents (but I am right!):)

Re: My Rancor Tooth Saber - PICS ADDED!

Please don't take this personally but I don't really like it.

I am floored by the look of the "Tooth" but the metal parts seem to look way out of place and way too clean. Plus there are variations in the color and types of finishes.

I know it's not accurate but I might have gone with a hybrid version of this, 2/3rds tooth and 1/3rd metal.

The metal emitter end would have to be really weathered and seem as if it were forged by hand.

Overall it would look like someone hollowed out an Rancor tooth and stuck a saber into it.

But if you're going to go all "tooth" you might want to consider using very subtle and extremely weathered greeblies.

Not to disagree with you but for me that is really what she did. Not sticking a saber in it so much but using the tooth (hollowed out) just like any other saber body. That is the only way she built these using teeth. The tooth is old and used (of course) but the saber parts are new, or at least only 10 years old - she is not that old, and she built it in her teens.
Not like you can just pull out a Rancor tooth and push a button and have a lightsaber.:)

(Wow..showing of the geeky Star Wars side of me strongly at the moment:lol)

Re: My Rancor Tooth Saber - PICS ADDED!

well i am taking this design to be the second saber she built, she built two rancor tooth sabers, the first blew up, and caused the accident that she lost her arm in. In the painting her arm is gone, so i assume this is the second saber. By this time she is a princess, and therefor any parts she would put into building a saber, from my opinion, would be clean, royal, and new looking. Since i took the pics ive removed the silver piece and added a smaller knurled knob with a clear white crystal on it, making it more royalty-focused.

some excerpts:

"Tenel Ka then began a lightsaber training exercise with Jacen Solo, where Tenel Ka found herself approving of her friend's skill. It was during that duel in which her lightsaber malfunctioned and blew out in her left hand while Jacen swung his blade down to attack her. With Tenel Ka's blade suddenly gone, Jacen was unable to bring his blade up in time and it cleaved through Tenel Ka's left arm just above the elbow."

"The Jedi Knight Tenel Ka used a rancor tooth to build both her first and second lightsaber."

"She returned to Yavin 4, and built a new lightsaber. She kept to her original design of using a rancor tooth, but worked with the Force to create a weapon superior to the original. It used a rainbow gem from Gallinore, and produced a turquoise-colored blade."

The ring pieces you have are exactly what I used for mine in The Essential Guide to the Force except I replaced the ring with a brass triangle ring.

I wanted to keep it accurate to the painting, but still add a Dring and a few buttons, so I put them on the opposite side than shown in the painting, or where her fingers are covering, so the buttons could feesibly be there.

That was exactly why I placed most of the details where they are since mine is supposed to be the same saber in that painting.

Hah, yeah I found the rings at Ace above the knurled nobs and like pieces. Still cant decide which one I want to use though.

few more pics, finished the diamond on the button and inserted the emitter.

I finally painted and finished the kit I got from Kylash327 - who did a great job on these, really no work to do but paint them - and it still took me forever.
Sorry these are a little blurry, I took them a couple time, just having trouble, and frankly sick of taking pictures from all my recent eBay sales:rolleyes.
