Han Solo in Carbonite Replica

Here is my HIC so far. I got this from Vos last October.
Even though it was a great casting, to super clean-up something this size takes a LONG time.
I finished the clean up/filling and sanding last week and coated it with primer today.

I coated the wooden frame on the inside with quite a few coats of resin, so i don't have to worry about any moisture getting to the wood.

I reworked the "tick" shape to the right of Han's face (left as you look at it), as some of that detail was lost. I still have a little work left to do on the other side.

Hi, I collect original movie props and have always thought of this one as the holy grail of props (excluding the holy grail from the last crusade of course) I gotta tell you so far this replica looks spot on. I am interested to see the finished product!

Tobi,

They're pretty common nowadays, though not necessarily cheap, depending on your own budget.

Some people sell just the body parts and you would fix it onto a wooden panel and provide your own carbonite material around the parts. Others do a full panel or full panel cut in half for shipping.

Some make these in fiberglass. Some in foam filled resin. Or hard rubber.

Do a search in the junkyard or the Cargohold on The Dented Helmet, and you're bound to pull up more than a couple.

Nice work, Keith. This is one replica I never get tired of seeing. Look forward to watching your progress.

Hey Keith,
It's great to see someone finishing one of my raw castings. You've done a great job cleaning it up...looks very nice indeed.

Thanks everyone and thanks Neil for making these.
I've always wanted one, but didn't like the idea of a wooden or mdf box. As soon as i found out Vos was making these as a one piece casting, i just had to get one.

Pro Mod, I've already mounted it on the wall even though its not finished. Its simple to hang up on shelf brackets with it having a wooden frame in the back.

Neil, i hope to paint him next month, but it might be a bit longer.
I have finished fiberglassing the inside of the dash panels, so those are nice and strong now and won't warp. Next job is to fit threaded rods inside the panels and drill holes in the HIC block which line up with the rods, so the panels can be fitted and removed when needed.
I also have a bit more work to do on the front panel.

I then want to look for a bit more reference for the paint job before i paint the whole thing.
I just wish i could see the real one in person to get a better idea on how it was painted.

I always love a good HiC, this one looks like it's going to be amazing - keep us informed of the progress! One day I will do my own... One day...
