Hammerhead Corvette 1/127 Scale Rogue One Build

I thought this would be something fun to post. I wish I documented all the kits I used. Looking at it now, I just don't remember which kits I pulled from on some of the smaller parts in crevices. I mainly pulled from Y-Wing and X-Wing donor kits. Many of the inset or parts in crevices are from Millennium Falcon side walls I made years ago for the Hasbro Rebels Falcon Here's what I do remember:

Paint Progress.
White Car automotive primer on top of adhesion promoter.
Base Coat Archive-X Reefer White
Dark Grey areas Archive-X SP Lark DK Grey
Orange Sections Archive-x Reefer Orange misted with Reefer White, Armor Yellow, and SP Lark DK
Panels are a combo of AX Reefer LT Grey, Light Blue, Mud, Armor Yellow, and Foundation

Oh man - this is BEAUTIFUL! Wonderful job on everything from the modeling itself to the paint and weathering. Love it!

Dan

hello Mike just seen your post what a brilliant job so far mate, excellent as Bob and Ted would say, I made an attempt at this one loved it in the film bringing down the empire.....my attempt is not on the same level as yours but I like it. Like your self no acess to a 3 d printer ( not sure about them any way ) built the old way with plastic and lots of kit bits well a few anyway. I await your next update it will look superb keep going.

regards Barrie ( the old guy building the old way )

This is a stunning model for sure! I have a few questions, what type of adhesion promoter did you use, was it just the standard promoter that you would add to the car type primer? I only ask as I am about to start a build on a resin kit and I know the kit I have has had issues with primer and paint adhering in the past for others.

Also, how do you like those Archive-X paints? I have been eyeing a set of those and was just curious how easy they went down. I assume for the price they are awesome but was just wondering.

Lately, if you can, can you share a bit about how you do your 'paint chipping'. Your weathering is fantastic and I was just curious.

Thanks for sharing!

I use the Dupli-color brand. Mainly because I can easily find it at my local O'reilly's Autoparts. I usually use Dupli-color grey or white primer with it.

I love Archive-X paint! The colors are so rich and smooth. You just thin them with mineral spirits. The other advantage to using them is they are perfect matches to the original floquil railroad paints used by ILM. They are very durable also. I've never felt the need to clear coat after using as I have with water based acrylics. They work really well to do weathering with a brush also since they are oil based.

For my chipping I use liquid latex. I like to apply it with a silcone brush but you can use a regular brush also. Just peel off the latex with your finger after the paint dries. (BTW I totally noticed some that I missed to peel off after seeing some of these photos Lol.) I will use a combination of sanding and the dremell to beat it up more. Misting back panels with the base color and other greys also give a really nice worn look. Hope this helps.

Holy ******* . That is amazing. Kinda makes everything I try irrelevant. This is the work I want to be able to do in the future.
Amazing model and an even matched paint job!

Thank you so much everyone! I really appreciate the love! This has been my favorite project by far. I've learned so much, mainly from my mistakes. There are definately things that I would do differently next time.
