Well, I am far enough along on the helmet that I feel confident enough to post pictures. It isn't done yet so there will be more pics to come.

This is my first Low-Res helmet I made. I lost one of the pieces near the front but at that point I really didn't care so I left it off. It was a good first run.

Here is my second helmet that I made. It was done at medium resolution. I was pretty pleased with the result of this one.

Here is the new Hi-Res helmet I am currently building.

As you can tell, I am well organized. :rolleyes

Sorry about the quality of some of the pics, some of them were taken with my phone. I promise to have some better quality pics later.

Definately inspired by Thorssoli, although I have a ways to go before I will be at his level. :)

cool man - I like this method of building
only prob is - some folk think just doing hte pep is enough, theres hell of a lot more work to be done even after teh resining and fibreglassing. (for instance - I should have spent a bit more time on my own build - but hey ho :D)

as you have the peps - I take it htat you already know of the 405th forums? Well worth popping over there, lots of nice pepakura hints and tricks on there

here is my quick project for a mates kid for xmas just gone (excuse the colour, thats the colout she wanted!!)

good luck and have fun mate!

Nate

Yeah, I got a LOT of work left most def. I am taking my time with my Hi-Res helmet though because I want that thing prestine. Your helm looks has some pretty sweet weathering. Any tips for the visor?

heh - thanks

the weathering technique I learnt from the the doing clones/boba fett. Its layered with mustard sauce masking fluid rofl!!

my visor could be better, but its a real cheap option (and isnt really thick enough tbh). In UK, mirrored bike lenses arent allowed. SO one way round for the biekrs is to buy mirror lens inserts to paste on the inside of a clear lens. They are only abt £1.50 (ie abt $2.25?) per sheet, and are abt 2mm thick? You usually need 2 sheets to make it opaque enough to NOT see into the helmet.

have to be careful though, size is a major issue, I looked for one big enough before purchasing one set.

good luck mate!

Nate

theres a great tutorial on 405th boards abt how to use a thick visor (2 of em) to make a real b*t*hin visor!! but I wasnt that brave!

405th is the place for all the tuts and things you'll need to finish a suit. But you probably already know that since that's where the file's from. Nice start. Looking forward to how it turns out.

Yep, definately frequent the 405th. All of my pep files came from their site. My goal is to have the suit done by next halloween. I wanna get one done for me and then a scaled down version for my wife.

Needed a break from my Halo build so I decided to build a Predator Bio yesterday. Here is a pic from that:

Just polyester resin'd it today. Just ordered a gallon of Smooth-On Rotocast Urethane plastic, gonna hit the Pred Bio and my Master Chief helmet with it when it gets here.

Looking great, unfortunatly for me my patience is a little thin with pepakura work, a bit too heavy handed with them too. I know from a few friends the amount of time it takes and i prob woulld have been out of it by the end of the first week :p

I would say the worst part is cutting the pieces out. When I first started I would cut everything out and then I would assemble. Now I build everything in sections that way I don't get too burned out with cutting or glueing. I usually put in a DVD of Mythbusters and get to it. Once I get started doing it I can usually just hammer away at for a few hours. Once things start to take shape, it is actually quite rewarding. :)
