Halo 4 Master Chief WIP

Well getting done by Halloween was always far fetched but at least now i can put as much detail as i want now

I've been trying a new technique with pep as well I've been using edge lock tape to build the whole thing instead of hot glue ( eliminates cutting out all those damn glue tabs and makes this go a lot faster. it can be tricky at times but it works for me) once I'm done with the first two coats of fiberglass on the outside i pull all the tape off and fiberglass the inside. The fiberglass soaks all the way through the paper so if i have to sand down past it.. no problems and no soft corners from the hot glue being in-between the layers of fiberglass.

I decided to keep the jet packs separate so I can handle them easier

I did my best to laser level everything while i fiber-glassed it

I modified the forearm pep files to make it more game accurate based off the photos I've seen ( I'm trying to do that will all the files but time is not on my side) and also started on the helmet

Slowly but surely its coming together and starting to look good

Awesome work! can't wait to see the end result. Hope you make it before Halloween. I'll keep an eye on this thread so I can marvel at your progress!

not much of an update but I've peped out a shoulder piece and one shin. i decided to make the shin piece useable for right and left so i don't have to pep two.. ( less details but good for time management.. plus i could always add in more stuff later)

Fiberglassed the forearms and hung them up to dry

gotta pep the buttocks... the thighs, boots and ab plate/cod piece and i can put the scissors away.... ahhh I can't wait. taking the night off for a cold beer and some sexy time but ill be back on the grind tomorrow. I'll keep the updates coming.

Life keeps getting in the way of my project time but I manage to find time here and there. Built and fiberglassed a couple new pieces.. I was really hoping to be done with all the pep by now but I'm still 4 pieces away :cry between fiberglass coats I've been sanding and applying spot putty but progress has slowed

I took care not to get sloppy with my fiberglassing like i tend to do and I'm glad i did cause after just one coat of primer i can tell its not gonna take alot of time to get a finished product.

one of my favourite characters!! Its my next project once my iron man is done. Making good time so far, good luck hope you get it sorted for halloween!

Looking good! Can you explain how you're using edge lock tape to build it? I'm curious how this makes the build go faster.

for me the edge lock makes the peping go faster mostly because i don't to cut out all those damn glue tabs and its reapply-able if it doesn't lay right just pull it off and do it again. for me hot glue was always just a pain in the ass. the pieces lay flush with one another and with some time and practice i feel like i get a better all around product. for little tiny pieces I still bust of the glue gun but for everything else one strip of tape usually get the job done. I also like it better because once you fiberglass the outside you can just take the tape off and you can completely cover the inside with fiberglass too. On my stormtrooper bucket i ran into problems with soft corners because the hot glue kept the fiberglass away form the inside of the paper I have to punch the holes out pull the hot glue out and fill it with putty. they never seem to pop up till i though i was done then somewhere the paper would cave in and id have to continually keep working it.

Well its safe to say Halloween is out of the picture for this year.. SUCKS but whatever life goes on. Now that I don't really have a dead line I've decided to go back and add all the details that i left out for the sake of time. I want to get the helmet done first. Here is some of the progress that I've made
halo-4-helmet.jpg

I've added the bulge on cheek right under the visor and in front of the lights ( if they were there) and I filled in and etched out the the Recess's on the top. I've noticed that a lot of the other helmets out there have the piece I've circled in red just a line etched out and from the photo below its clearly not so I decided to scratch that and go with a more accurate look still very much a WIP

I also want to make the detail on the nose more accurate then I've been seeing its hard to say cause i cant really find any good pictures of it but i started off my making the raised lip around it

Not much of an update but I would like to get your opinions or any suggestions

Crap that you can't make Halloween Echo, looking on the bright side however: I for one am glad to see you going in to more detail on your build.
I love the work so far and instead of lurking around in the shadows of this forum your build is starting to inspire me to do a Master Chief of my own.
Keep the updates comming :D

did a little work tonight after i got off work here is what i have for the side of the helmet now... its not perfect yet but its on its way..

i also started slowly adding to the other pieces ^
I spent half an hour rummaging through all my crap looking for something that i could use for the nose detail I couldn't find anything so i decided to make one. I filled the finger grip of a mechanical pencil with fiberglass resin and I think its gonna work

I sanded it down some to get a flat bottom and lessened the curvature in the front. still needs work but its a start
