HalloweenCostumes.com "Back to the Future 2 Light Up Shoes"

cavx do you still have any heelcups i saw you used to make them i know clone props sells them but it costs 50 bucks for 2 buckles and id rather not spend half of what i spent for the shoes on ankle buckles if you dont have any or stuff to make them do you know anything i could do to make my own?

glasses, the ankle buckles and heel cups and soles I made are complex parts. Each requires a proper 2 part mold to ensure full detail for each. Therefore the asking price at shape ways for the 3D printed part is actually really good considering what you would have to spend in chemicals (RTV silicone + elastomer + pigments) to make your own. And of course, without a vacuum chamber, you are likely to have bubble ridden parts.

cavx has anyone ever tried to improve the shape of the stock buckles? i have stuff for making latex molds since i do a lot of sfx makeup work i thought of maybe making sort of a appliance that would be glued onto the buckle to add the more round back and prominent arches then just painting the thing white do you think that would that work?

glasses if the latex bonds to the rubber, then yes. If the latex behaves anything like the elastomer, you should be able to build it up, let it set and shape it with a dremil and then glue that part on to the existing buckle. You might even be able to blend the two parts with a thin skin later.

I had thought about ordering the cloneprops ankle buckles but they are 3" tall, which is supposed to match the RD Mags size. This would work fine on the V2's which are taller but still not as tall as the RDs. The buckles are too tall to fit on the HC Mags, they would touch or even slightly overlap the puffy white collar at the top and touch or overlap the grey heel cup.

I might try to Dremel out the ankle buckles or try to sculpt or 3D print some and cast them.

I'm going to leave the heel cups alone. I was talking about the white ankle buckles that cover the charge port and power switch.

I'm using Markpoons EL strap upgrade so I need more room for the electronics.

Maybe I should rework my vac formed buckles and mold and cast them. They are a decent shape and are bit shorter than the cloneprops part.

cavx Do you have any photos of them? I was thinking of making some that were 2.75" tall, so that they could be used for V2s and HCs.

i know sorry lol the heelcups actually can be formed into the right shape i did it on my hc pair and cavx did it on his v2s i meant the strap buckles i dont think it would work to dremmel away its better to add on to the part since if you make them too small youd be screwed

These are probably the best side by side shots I have on hand. I think with a little bit of work, they could be very useful. But all said and done, your probably still looking at $50 per set when cast in flexible white rubber.

Thanks Cavx. I might try and add some material to get the back side rounder. I might make a mold of the V2, build on top to round it, make the edges more pronounced. Or model it in 3d and print it. Cast in resin or urethane or even VAC form some buckles.

Just a test run but dose this size and shape look off?

Coming along Glasses!

The only thing I would suggest is toning down the top and bottom "ledges". On the RD's, they stick out a little more but it's more that they are slightly more "pronounced", not so much that they need to extend further. Looks like a sharper edge that's enhanced by the grooves surrounding the "ball" of the dome part.

Here's a good side view for reference.

Thats better, but the middle is still too fat. It needs to be more trim.
See my example

MAGWHITEANKLEPIECE_zpsc1a9d3c4.jpg

I made the ankle piece back in 2013, exactly 2 years ago (bloody hell time flies).
I did mine from completely scratch by hand before I even had any V2 shoes.

I got mine virtually 98% accurate and cast them in proper rubber but they yellowed due to non UV stable rubber.
I'm going to tweak mine again and recast them where they will be almost 100% accurate and in UV stable rubber.

I spent hours and hours on every angle making the corect shape, its not a simple shape, and takes time to make even anymore remotely close to accurate. I will probably be casting mine when I cast my other scratch made parts.

@glasses Bottom half looks great. Something not quite right with the top half. I think you might need to slim off the top rim a touch. The bulge on the back look good. Over all, well done. What is it made from?
