HalloweenCostumes.com "Back to the Future 2 Light Up Shoes"

Re: HalloweenCostumes.com "Back to the Future 2 Light Up Shoes"

Thanks guys for the info.
It seems it's only possible to quote with the full web version.(too bad)

You mean that there will be no logos on the shoes then?

By the upper, you mean the little triangle shaped hole?

I'm not that handy, can I buy the shoes already modified with the EL panels in the soles?

Any suggestions where to best buy them?
I'm kinda new at this, only bought from ebay before.

You can only buy shoes without any EL panels.

Both the V2 fake from china and the Halloween Costume shoe come with plain LEDs installed.

You have to install all the parts yourself, or unless someone is selling a shoe which is already modified then you could buy that.

Aliexpress is where you can buy the "branded" V2 fakes, the ones which are most closest currently to the actual nike shoes. They cost around $250.

Halloween costumes is where you can buy the "licensed" cheaper version which is unbranded but which has a slightly smaller upper and different stitching. They cost around $99.

When I post on this forum from my phone or tablet, I use the full web version of the site which features QUOTE icons. I am not sure if the app will have these or not.

Not to put all our eggs in one basket, the said V3 is a privateer venture. If he succeeds (and I really hope he does), we will have an even more accurate upper than the current V2s. The catch will be, no branding like the HCs. Nothing is for certain at this stage. The soles will be the same as used on the both the V2 and HC, just the upper will actually look like the real shoe.

Do these shoes actually come with a certificate or anything to validate they are "licensed" or is just the print on the box?

There is a sticker on the box and also behind the tongue there is a label stitched in saying universal licenced.

So it seems. I use a PC when ever I can which allows me to multi-quoting as well :)

You mean that there will be no logos on the shoes then?

Apparently NIKE own a patient on the shoes. This includes the shape, the name etc. At one stage it was said that Universal actually owned all IP on all items seem in the films including the NIKE MAG and why NIKE were not able to release anything more then a colourway of their own shoe. Not sure how true that is. So no these shoes, should they actually go into production, will not have branding. You can buy a decal kit from MP now that will allow you to compete your dream of owning a pair of MAG shoes.

The V2s are a Chinese made replica with branding that they are not supposed to (legally) have. The Chinese make replicas of all the popular sports shoes and generally do a pretty close to perfect job. In the case of the MAG, not as good as they could have. I guess they didn't have the real shoe on hand to reverse engineer at the time, so the V2s came out with a look resembling the original replica MAG known on these boards as the "MP MAG" which first appeared back in 2004.

In 2011 about the same time as the real NIKE MAG was released, the Chinese brought out the V1 and then in 2012, the V2. The V1s were a too short PVC version of the MP MAG and the V2 is the closest thing us mere mortals can own that look anything like the real NIKE MAG. There is still many things that need correcting such as the shape of the upper, the size of the cuff etc. The soles whilst well made still have the MP MAG look to them, though they are much better than the V1 or the MP MAG in that regard.

Last year Halloween Costumes released their version of the MAG which is known here as the HC MAG. These are cheap and do not look right. They are too short, they have a cuff which is way over sized and generally are the wrong shape. Their toe box is enormous and something just doesn't sit right with the Heel Cup. I've noticed this more since some of the guys have added the MP decal kit to these shoes and where the SWOOSH is almost horizontal. I am not sure what is going on there. The straps and laces have excess stitching around them and the laces bulge right out. Given the V2 and HC actually come out of the same factories, I am not sure why they just didn't release an un-branded version of the V2.

By the upper, you mean the little triangle shaped hole?

That little hole is but one thing in need of correction. The list is long but not as bad as the HC list above. The cuff is still too big on these, but nothing like the cuff on the HCs. The upper sits forward and I am probably the only guy that has made an attempt to correct this on the V2. Mine now sit up more but a BIG job (and still a work in progress) to get it there.

I'm not that handy, can I buy the shoes already modified with the EL panels in the soles?

There are a select few that mod these for about $1500. They do a very good job and your shoes will be full wearable. If you don't have or want to spend that amount, you will have to learn how to mod these yourself.

Thanks airair. Thought as much. As we both know, that counts for absolutely zero given our V2s have a NIKE tag inside the shoe.

lol!
you're right!
All fakes have those labels with barcodes.

Thats a lot of info [emoji3]
Thanks so much for this.
So the HC ones are not the same as the official unbranded Universal ones?
Because they really look cheap.

I think I'm going for the Chinese "branded" knock offs and just figure out a way to put the EL lights in them.
What about the strap light,
I saw someone selling them in ebay.
Is that the way to go?
Or do you guys have tried other ways?

From which version did you make yours cavx?

That is the problem. The HCs are the so called "licensed" shoe and they do look cheap.

Smart move :) Careful with how much you pay on evil bay. Some of these replicas go for way too much as do the accessories.

From which version did you make yours cavx?

V2s. Here is my modded shoe (right) next to an un-modded shoe. So far I have -

1. Added the cloneprops 3D printed ankle buckle. I do plan on molding and casting a re-worked version in white rubber one day and making a new strap that matches the tongue.

2. Slimmed the toe (steam method). I might tackle the cut method and completely remove the toe box to give that true movie shoe look. My display pair will have this done for sure.

3. Added an extended tongue that is made from vinyl. I used a pattern from the RD MAGs that I modified to look more like the movie shoe by making it about 20% longer.

4. Molded and cast "outrigger' soles in clear elastomer. Love my soles :) What a job (and cost) to make them.

5. Changed the colour of the mid-sole by adding light grey rubber. I have lost my texture and I do have an idea to get that back, but this method will not peel or flake. My first attempt at this using a special paint cracked after just one outing.

6. Added Glow In The Dark resin to my soles and strap. I did have LEDs in the strap and soles, but I kept breaking wires, so now, no more broken wires ever! The only limitations to this are I can't turn them off and they must 'charge' first.

7. *I am currently modding the Heel Cup to give the shoes that "fat ass" look of the RD MAG. It is a slow work in progress.

8. *re-apply spatter using aqua rubber, not paint. After the Heel Cups are done. No time frame on this yet.

That Looks Nice!
Is there a big difference between the V2 buckle and yours?

I love the toe slim. That's definitely something I want for sure on mine.

The tongue also is very noticeable.

WOW, those "outrigger" soles really look like the real deal!
Never saw a replica with those before.

What do you think of these EL ankle straps?

So for clarity, cloneprops made the part from a 3D scan of a real MAG. I am simply using that part on my shoes.

I think this tells a pretty good version of the story.

The toe mod makes the look of these shoes. I was denial for so long...The best version of the toe slim was done by both airair and glasses. The toe box is completely removed giving the true 'sock' look.

The tongue also is very noticeable.

Yeah and something that bugged me so I had to fix that. A few of the guys have done tongue mods. I was certainly not the first for that.

That was the goal :) I think I was the first to do this and I have an EOI thread in the JY. I will have to re-work my molds though. Just looking for numbers right now before I throw any more $$$$ at the project.

One of the examples of too much IMO. It is a sexy upgrade though.

Now I see the difference between buckles.
You clearly have an eye for detail.
love to see them once finished!

It was probably these images that made me decided I wanted to change that part.

Note how low the part of the mid-sole is on the the real shoe. That is the look I am working on now. the new Heel Cups are setting up as I type this. When it comes to the splatter, I might just have to bag and tape the shoes and flick the aqua at them.

That sure sounds like a lotta work.
But definitely worth it once finished IMO.
How many pairs do you own?

Two pair - one for show and one to go (wear).
It has been a bit of work, but a great learning process as well. I had no idea how to mold and cast before I came to this site and took on these shoes as a project.

stprime you can't really see the soles once the lights are turned on but here's a pic from my phone also cavx dose this strap look ok? It's not glued together yet just taped I wanted to know if it seems ok first I've had so much fun so far and what I thought would be the easiest turned out to be the biggest pain in my ass

I think you currently have the best looking pair of HCs around. Yeah the strap is not the easiest thing to get right. probably because it is so straight. What are you using to cut the vinyl?

That toe slim rocks. So make that look of that shoe.

@cavx thanks man means a lot yeah I've always wanted mags and I never saw myself cutting open a shoe that costs over 200 bucks so when the hc shoe was announced I jumped on it now that I've actually tried stuff I'm thinking about getting some v2s when I have money to blow. I was using an exacto knive but I got a rotary wheel now and it's been helping a lot I'm not home now but I'll post some pics when I have the straps done the rotary tool really helps get a straighter edge on the straps I was pulling my hair out I thought I hit a dead end lol I have the el for my straps on the mail should be here in about a week I got some blue el instead of aqua so hopefully it'll match my led in the soles I can't see myself putting el in these shoes I just don't think it's worth it I'll for sure do it when I mod some v2s though. When I get home I'm gonna spend all night flattening my laces more I'm seeing pics of v2s with perfect flats laces and I know I can do better than what I've done on these I want then perfect for when my markpoon decals come in so my swoosh isn't all wobbly.

glasses It seems there is extra foam on these HC shoes. The V2s seem to have a thinner layer here. I so hope you do get some V2s soon as you have skills to mod these, so would be awesome if you did the same on a pair of V2s.

cavx one day I'll do a v2 lol I'll have to get some white tinted soles from you for sure go all out and try and get as close to the movie shoe as possible I love the rd mags but I'm more after having a pair of prop shoes than replica nikes

glasses I have blue clear tint but only have solid white tint and not sure if I can get white clear at this time. I do have a duck egg blue solid tint that seems to work in the clear and I used a very small amount of this when I did my first clear sole mix and pour back in 2012. The white is pretty potent.

I also had green which looked almost black in the jar. I mixed that with some of this light blue to create the aqua needed for the MAG and splatter.
