HalloweenCostumes.com "Back to the Future 2 Light Up Shoes"

Did you ever finish the new straps for your HC Mags? Curious to see them.

No. Holiday had me busy, and after X-mas I was down from head-flu. Right now I'm trying to finish up a practice-build hoverboard to work on my board-making technique.

If there's anything you'd like to know about how I would construct a strap, that wasn't covered prior, feel free to ask.

Does anyone know what type of setup this guys is using? It looks simple and the kit comes ready to go.

Here is my first sample strap for the HC Mag. The NIKE does not glow but I think the color looks good with the blue LEDs the shoe brings.

Finished both new straps for my HC Mags. This set has non glowing blue NIKE decals but I'll be making another set of straps with blue GITD a tape which should look really nice.

Thanks brother but I went ahead and ordered some blue GITD tape. Since I'm planning on leaving the existing blue LEDs on the HC Mags, I feel like cyan NIKE wouldn't match as well as blue one.

Fair call and I actually like blue on these shoes.

My idea was to post that for anyone looking to fake the EL because in time, the LEDs will fail. If you don't wish to re-wire, the this tape might just be a "wireless" solution.

We can call it "solar powered" :)

Anyone where I can get some CR2032 cell battery inverters?

I showed you where. Via PM, if I remember right.

Ordered my pair. I ordered a 7, because my shoe size (in EU standard) is 39, which, according to this page, corresponds to US size 7. I hope they will fit right...

Having some sizing problems myself. I ordered US8, snug, but okay fit. They had some defects so they gave me another pair of 8's that are somehow too tight. I'm having them do some measurements across the sole for me. Probably will just have to size up to 9.

Hope yours turns out well.

Are these pictures pretty accurate to what they look like in person? Just wondering if they're any brighter or darker in real life. I bought some of that gitd tape to play around with, just waiting for it to show up.
Honestly, I was expecting a stronger glow. It takes a while to charge and works best with sun light. It's hard to capture it in pictures tho.
I have a Duck brand green one from WM that glows like crazy and charges up in seconds.
But it doesn't look match with the blue LEDs that these Mags have.

It doesn't seem to glow as brightly as the paint I have.

Get yourself a flashlight with a Cree LED. That should charge them up full in about 5 seconds. I use a FENIX LD22, but any flashlight with a Cree should be fine. You can find them under $10 on Amazon.

You have to consider the following -

1. LEDs hotspot even if the eye does not see it, a camera will pretty much always pick it up. EL does not hotspot and why it always looks nicer in photos and to our eye. The idea of using GITD is to fake the look of EL with out the expense, or the need to power it up. In the end, it won't be as good as EL, but hopefully a close second.

2. Human vision is way more sensitive to green light than any other colour in the visible spectrum. Green makes up about 72% of the total of white (made of red green and blue) light we see and why the green GITD looks brighter to us.

3. The brightness of this GITD seems to be based on two things -
a. the amount of light/time it is exposed for.
b. the amount GITD in a given space or volume.

Tape is thin, so you have a finite amount of GITD available on the surface only. The strap logos I just made are 3mm thick and mixed at the maximum of 15% GITD, so you have the same surface area as your tape plus the thickness of my cast which equates to something like 10x the amount of GITD. My soles have even more volume.

As mentioned, you can layer this paint up to increase the over all volume.

That brightness comment was about his GITD tape, not your paint-mix. Your paint mix brightness looks fine from what I've seen of it.

And I know about the GITD paint thickness/brightness. I said as much in my "got my mags" post on page 8. It was one of the first things I noticed after making my prototype strap, the "low spots" on the paint glowed less. I opted to not waste more paint correcting it, since it was just a demonstrator.

Glow Inc instructions calls for a 1/16th inch thickness for optimum effect.
