Halloween Costume 2012: Amora the Enchantress

My husband has been building pepakura props for the last few months and encouraged me to post my costume for Halloween this year. I decided to make an Amora the Enchantress costume from the Thor comics. She is not well known, and, at least as of yet, is not available as a crappy costume at Party City, so it will be unique and fun.

I started with her top, as that will be the biggest peice of the costume. Ultimately, I decided to go with an emerald green corset, as you can see below. I felt the emerald green was a more realistic color choice than going with neon or lime greens, as some of the Enchantress's costumes use. Next, I purchased elbow high green gloves to match the corset (pictures will be added later).

At that point, I was left with trying to determine what to do with the skirt/apron. Trying to maintain some modesty, and avoid countless hours sewing, I opted to make a tutu skirt for the bottom part of the costume. I purchased tulle (picture below) and some emerald ribbon. I had considered actually sewing the tulle into the ribbon, but apparently that process is very difficult. Instead I opted for a no-sew approach, as it was quick and easy. However, the skirt is a little puffier than had I sewn it. Basically, you just loop the tulle around the ribbon and then make a knot. A sample picture is below.

Last night, I began work on the headpeice that Amora wheres. I purchased green craft foam, but opted to work with paper at first to get the shape that I wanted. Below is a picture that my husband took, but I modified the shape quite a bit before I cut into the craft foam. Tonight, I hope to add some poster board to the back of the craft foam to make it more sturdy/rigid, and then I will evaluate if the craft foam color works with the rest of the costume or determine if I need to go buy fabric to cover the headpiece.

After the headpeice, I have the belt to make and then I am waiting for yellow vinyl to put the circles on the leggings that the Enchantress makes. I realize the picks are not much, but I will have my husband take more pictures in the next day or so and update this thread. I hope you all enjoy it, and please, feel free to offer suggestions, as I am relatively new to this.

Ok, so I had my husband take a few more pictures today to show the progress of the costume. As you can see in the first post, I don't think I made the headpeice fat enough on the sides. I am still deciding on whether to scrap it and start again from scratch or trying to add more craft foam to the peice.

Also, I added a picture of the completed tutu dress and the arm sleeves that I will wear with the corset. I hope to finish the headpeice tonight and begin working on the belt tomorrow. I realize that individually it does not look like much, so once I finish with the headpeice, I will take a peice of everything I have completed so far in order to give a general idea of the direction I am going. Again, I would love any suggestions. Thanks!
