Halloween 2010:

Last year we did where the wild things are (See boards here of full size Carol and Max) but decided to something with just clothing cut up and reconfigured from goodwill, etc. and prop stuff around the house to save money (My wife is so talented w/ sewing). So here is the fruit of our labors in two weeks time all the while we were waiting for my dad's cancer screening results (Sadly he has pancreatic cancer now but HE LOVED the costumes and efforts, a smile a day that's all I'm pushing for now). We won a local contest we typical enter and take 1st or 2nd and get in paper which always chases us down and prints but asks what will next years costumes be? Great fun!

What's in Your Wallet (Capital One Vikings - 2 adults - my wife and I) - we also doubled as Hiccups dad and one of the twin viking girls from HTTYD with the kids
How to Train Your Dragon (My 2 children - Hiccup and Astrid)
Narnia's Mr Tumus / White Witch (Son and his GF)

The axes, sword and small shield were all store bought but re painted by wife to make them look better like wood etc. The large shields I made out of foam and painted, the shoulders for daughter are craft foam with plastic spikes added. The hooves for Mr Tumus are old womens clog shoes from goodwill with heels cut off and fur added / painted. The crown for white witch is a series of xmas icicles. The vikings all have women's dresses cut up and collars re done. The skirt for daughter is a woman's leather skirt cut up and re sewn to what you see with plastic spikes added. The small skulls on the shoulders and skirt are hand sculpted by wife and painted out of clay then attached. Mr Narnia's ears are leather scraps I cut up and then curled his actual ears in circle then taped - yes taped the leather too (Hair covered everything up and he could actually hear). The horns were just store bought devil horns re painted by son. Leather guanlets for me were part of old leather jacket bought at consignment and cut apart adding plastic spikes and helmets are store bought but changed w/ fur and paint schemes. GREAT fun on a very little Budget - the sounds of "What's in Your Wallet" was carried all over the downtown festival!!!!!

I saw this before and didn't have a chance to comment. I love the group costumes and can't believe that they were all made in 2 week's time, let alone from scrounged materials. Grrrrrrrrreat job! I particularly like how the adult costumes double as HTTYD to coordinate with the kids. Talk about making the most out of your efforts.

I think Astrid and Mr. Tumnus are my favs because the kids really fit the characters well, but they all work so well together. :)

P.S. - very sorry to hear about your dad's cancer diagnosis.
