Halliwax's weird V3 theory

Exactly... so when the rod comes flying out of the emitter.. how does the emitter stay connected to the rest of the saber...

What I'm thinking is that they altered it to make it a blade-less saber. There is a nipple or plug down in the emitter today, and most likely that used to be where the blade anchor went.

Maybe during fighting the emitter wasn't separate? (makes no sense to me though) Maybe... I don't really know

I think they just removed the blade, cut a rod, threw it now the emitter and locked it in with the set screws

I still think they gaffers taped the emitter on during RoTJ.. this would explain the anomaly we see in the Endor pic

And it would allow the emitter to stay attached to the rest of the hilt while the long blade flys out

Then for the bridge scene/surrender scene the saber was made into a static by removing the blade and attaching the emitter to the hilt with a rod inside, held with the 2 screws

That was listed in the original e-bay auction when the anh wood master first showed up. I've never seen a higher resolution version of it. It was taken in the early 2000s

So tough to see what sabers those are.. clearly 1 graflex but the other 2... my god I live for this stuff

that top half of a graflex with a short blade makes me feel better about only mounting the core in the upper of my ROTJ Vader saber

I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. Do you remember where you found it?
I vaguely remember that there was a connection to John Stears/Jason Joiner, perhaps Elstree Props and Stuart Freeborn, but again, I do not really remember, that's why I posted it here. During my visit of Elstree Props/Paul Harrison many, many years ago I searched through their "archive" and found lots of interesting/exiting images and documents from the OT production such as production meeting notes with Kurtz, Stears and others about the making of the different robots and props. That was back in the days of traditional photography, with a limited number of images in the camera. Norman Harrison presented a metal production made lightsaber blank to me that Norank made for use in ROTJ, but it wasn't finished due to some inaccuracies. I have images of this one somewhere back home. And there was this now famous image of the screen used ANH Vader faceplate on the carpet next to one of the Indy whips.

Vadermania if you don’t mind sharing the pics of the blank I’d love to see this!!

Interesting! I have a picture somewhere showing a very similar blank that was - I was corrected - it was part of the making of a replica and not the OT prop. It looked much like this, dirty gray, before the milling

I say this because each ring is shallow and they are all the same thickness. The ROTJ Norank one very distinctly had errors all over the grips (spacing) and those made it to the final prop!

Notice on your ANH blank that there are oddities and character in the cast, that happened with most OT props. I have a 2nd Gen cast of the Hero and the rings are all different sizes.

that being said, theres no reason this couldn't be a first attempt for the OT that was never finished..

The blank above indeed reminds me on that „famous“ ROTJ replica from Elstree Props that was supposedly built for the cave scene. During my two visits at Elstree Props the Harrisons showed me literally dozens of lightsabers, apparently non of those looked either production-made or scren used to me.

interesting - still a cool piece of history! good to know about some of the things they have shown - did they show them as if they were from production?
