Gun blue color on resin - how to?

I'm new to building up props and I did a search on this topic but couldn't find anything. So what's the best way to simulate bluing on a resin prop?

Any help would be appreciated.

Here's one method (not certain it's the best, but it works pretty good) :

1. Spray the gun matte black.

2. Drybrush some very dark metallic, like Gunmetal or Tin Bitz from (use Games Workshop "Citadel Color", Tamiya paints or whatever you want)

3. Either wash or airbrush a clear-blue color (again, use Tamiya or a very thinned out ink from (for example) Citadel Color). The Citadel ink gives you pretty good light refraction when viewed in different angles.

Not sure anyone has ever mastered it...

But the closest I came to resulted from a happy accident" and was more due to surface texture than color.

I had sanded the @#$%. out of a Deckard blaster so that a fly would slip and break its leg on the surface.

I then sprayed my black color coat and got a REALLY smooth surface.

But then I had to accent a part with some silver.

So due to some overspray from a buffable metallic paint, I rubbed a little witha soft cotton t-shirt.

Well, this actualy POLISHED the surface to almost a glass-like sheen and REALLY looked like gun metal.

You can also try rubbing some powdered graphite over a flat black base and polish it up. Looks pretty convincing.
