Done / Completed Guardians of the Galaxy : Starlord Gravity Mine and Infinity Orb

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy : Starlord Gravity Mine & Infinity Orb

Wow .. thanks for those pics zombcom!!!

I'm very impressed by how close I am to the real deal proportion and detail wise!!!

Here's what I'm gonna correct on my master hinge:
- 2 holes and the round peg on the underside
- Round plug on the outside face

I'm very happy with the rest!!!

I need to close this project now!

Zombcom, now that I look at it, is that a static prop? Meaning are the hinges glued to the legs?

I might have overdesigned it :)

While I'm sharing here, I wanted to show you guys the alumaluster / impiriflex system I did on one of those prop tributes orbs, the stuff is amazing, granted there is a ton of polyester high build primer used here, and wet sanding to 400 , but you can achieve great results after all is said and done, I mentioned this in a different post way back, figured id show it. Also I am officially interested in this kit of yours, you did a great job, and now I need a base lol. ToddIMG_6929.JPGIMG_6927.JPGIMG_6928.JPGIMG_6936.JPG

Very productive day people, finished my new leg mold and greeblies mold .. waiting for the rubber to cure right now!

Also, adjusted the hinge to be more screen accurate to the actual prop since we never saw the underside before. Will remold this tomorrow.

Here's what I mean .. you can compare to the screen prop posted above. Very very happy with this!! Thanks again zombcom!

Hmm what are the chances to outfitting these with white LED lights as seen in the movie? Or glow white EL tape? Just thinking out of the OCD box again y'all!!

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy : Starlord Gravity Mine & Infinity Orb

I thought a lot about it .. and decided that it was too complicated to do. First, I would have needed to build the hinges in 2 parts, top and bottom and keep them empty. Plus, the top would have needed to be done in acrylic so that the light would passe through.

Then, the wiring would have needed to go through the rods the goes through the legs into each hinges.

And somewhere in there, you would have needed a switch to toggle it on and off. Perhaps that one could have been put behind one of the hinges.

That would have meant a lot more work for me .. more molds etc .. plus the fact that most people won't do it this way so that would have meant, everyone would have needed to close the hinges, putty them .. so more work in general for everyone!

THAT BEING SAID ...

You could do this by buying the cheaper kit, cutting all 3 hinges in half .. then, emptying it, putting the led and resistor in there. Then buying hollow aluminium 1/8 tubing for the legs and throwing the wiring in there. Then, you get a small switch that you install behing one hinge. Definitely doable .. but you'll see that there's not so much space in there.

Oh and you need power somehow ...

AND the fact that this was CGI .. not the actual props since it was static as seen above!

:)

Hmm or i can do it the easy way and cut out some right angle triangles from white color glow in the dark tape maybe :)

Update!!!

New molds are out of the pressure pot!! Can't believe how much of a difference a chamber and pot do!!! Maybe less the chamber but the pot .. Wow!!

I let you be the judge of the new vs first mold. Also, for my defense, that was my first ever 2 parts mold!!

And a close up of the small bubbles stuck in the first mold cavities even though I take great care to pour from high and slowly!

You're on the list John!

Got my first greeblies and legs out of the new molds .. they came out perfect!!! I'm still waiting to see how much reject I get to produce a full set and then, I'll come up with a definitive price, but it may well stay at the 125$ mark.

Thanks for your patience people!

Re: Guardians of the Galaxy : Starlord Gravity Mine & Infinity Orb

Update time!

Mold for the leg is still producing perfect casting! I'm currently casting as many as I can while I'm finishing other parts.
Mold for greeblies is also done and I'm currently also stacking them up for the first sets to go.
Mold for the hinge is finally in the pressure pot. Should be able to start producing them tonight if all goes well!

What this all means is that once I find proper shipping boxes, I'll be able to pack sets for you guys. It's close now!!

Pictures of the final product coming soon!

Update time!
Molds are finally done and I can start producing these!!

Here is the parts that you will receive with the v2 kit.

And a crude mockup of what it will look like finished. Model is about 8-1/2" from toes to toes. It was made to accomodate a 3" to 4" diameter orb.

And a comparison of the V2 parts (left) versus the V1 parts, in resume:
- hinge was modified to fit the screen used prop: peg, holes and end cap were added based on the screen used prop revealed pics;
- leg has less flash cleanup;
- greeglies are the same.
