I'll keep updating the list, but as I said in the OP, I don't know how many I'm ultimately going to be making - figure I'll see how quickly the molds wear out.
However, I do have some progress to report now! My printer was out of commission for a little while thanks to a hardware failure, but with a few new parts and some stubborn banging I have managed to resurrect it in better shape than it was before, which actually allows me to print at even finer detail.
This one required substantially less clean-up than my first iteration of the orb, though I'll be sanding the exterior surface down nonetheless in the next day or two. There's also some slight seams that need to be sculpted shut before I can even think about making a mold, but we'll get there.
Speaking of which, all of my molding supplies are here now, so I think we're in good shape to give that stuff a try. I honestly don't know how hard or easy it's going to be to cold cast these things - resin is no big deal, but the molds are going to have so many little fiddly cracks and crevices for the tiny details on this thing. Not sure how well the metal will get in those parts. It's going to be trial and error for a while until I get the hang of it, I expect.
Lastly, I've been making some changes to my prospective electromagnet orb base after I printed out the first trial iteration of it. The biggest thing is that I actually got a reference image of what the top of the middle part is supposed to look like, and boy was I not even close:
I didn't realize it had lights, either! The version of the electromagnet that I'm doing for this run won't have those lights, if only because I want to be able to stick to the price point I was quoting, and it looks like it'd be a huge pain in the ass to try and come up with a wiring setup for that. Personally, if I had to make one that lit up, I'd probably use an AC wall adapter or something. Who knows.
Anyway, here's the redesigned parts:
It has screw holes now so I can dial it shut with my normal M2x4 screws. I also slapped the Star Lord / Ravagers logo on the bottom because it's a large, plain surface that you never see in the movie and I figured it'd be a nice little nod to the character. Was debating using the Nova Corps logo instead, and passing it off as some kind of stolen evidence gathering equipment, but I didn't like their logo as much.
More to come!
