Grogu's Beskar Mail Wrap (Red Cloth) Research Thread

Wondering if we can identify the cloth used for Mando's gift to Grogu in BoBF. They had it on exhibition at Celebration which allowed for some pretty clear reference pictures. I got these from zjunlimited's thread here.

I know the pattern is a Japanese style called yagasuri. There's a lot of them online, but I haven't been able to find one that matches correctly. There's a few imitations here, but these were clearly made after the fact to resemble the original prop. I'm looking for the actual fabric used on screen.

I'm pretty sure the prop used for Yoda's lightsaber was identified as the Master Replicas saber, so it should be possible to guage relative measurements of the cloth and the pattern using the MR's.

Any help is welcome, thanks!

I think I might have narrowed it down. Some Japanese Twitter posts claim it's a hand towel, which makes perfect sense for the size. It used to be available on Amazon Japan, but it doesn't look like it's up anymore. I think I've found the company that manufacturers them, but I'm still searching for an online listing. It looks like it may be an in-person only souvenir at the moment.

If it helps I printed up my own fabric online. I used a site called printfab.

I can’t remember the scaling I used though, it was a quarter brick layout and I think 15% but don’t hold me to that.

it might be in my posts at the time I’d have to check, but here is the pattern I made to use and the result.

I am certain now that the prop seen on screen is a hand towel made by the Japanese company Kamawanu. It seems that its been brought to their attention that their product was used in the show, but unfortunately its been retired. The specific pattern was listed as "red arrow fetching motif." I can't seem to find a listing anywhere online, so unless they bring it back into production we might have to settle for making our own like woodywaverider. I'm going to send Kamawanu an inquiry just in case, but I don't expect to get much back from them.

On the other hand, knowing the origin of the cloth has given me some great, clear reference of the pattern, so maybe I'll whip up a master pattern in photoshop based on it.

Here's several reference photos and the Japanese listing that finally got me results for those who might be interested.

You can probably take that last photo, crop it so it repeats and get it printed.

Would be cool if they will bring it back into production though, other companies have in the past. Really cool that you found it.
