Greatest, and Coolest Movie Endings

Serenity.

The last two lines of the movie get me all choked up:

River: "Storm's getting worse."

Mal: "We'll pass through it soon enough."

For those that followed Firefly, those two lines speak volumes. It's probably as close to a happy ending as Joss Whedon would let himself write.:lol
 
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry is, however, one of three films like that that EASILY come to mind.

Couple of clues in there as to whether or not Teddy was telling Leonard the truth:


Obviously the half second flash of Leonard in the mental hospital.

When "Sammy's" wife is trying to get him to remember things, and gets terribly upset with him when he doesn't, while she is crying into his shoulder she mutters "Leonard" instead of "Sammy".

Last one is pretty obscure but interesting...

When Leonard is talking to Natalie in the restaurant and recalling what he remembers about his wife, there is a shot of her (from the floor up) lying down with her head slightly off the side of the bed (or couch) with her eyes closed. She blinks a couple of times and then her eyes stay open.

Could this be Leonard's wife going into her insulin-induced coma?

(It has also been suggested that this shot is in reverse- which means her eyes would be open at first, blink and then close)

Interestingly this shot is also when Leonard says "And how much you hate the person who took them away." Is he subconsciously referring to himself?

Personally I think Teddy was telling the truth at the end of the film.

One flew over the Cuckoos nest. The Chief running off into the night after ripping up the sink and hurling it through the window, with the music building...Still gives me shivers.
 
I'm sure not many people saw this, but the build-up in the last 10 minutes was perfect for the sudden ending! :lol:lol:lol

I hated that movie. Part of the fun of watching a "whodunit" is sorting through the list of potential villains and trying to figure out which one(s) it is before they reveal it.

*SPOILER* Sorry, I don't know how to use spoiler tags.

Cop was a complete cheat because the villain was a character they threw in at the last minute, a person who hadn't been in the movie up to that point. That might happen during a real-life investigation, which would make the movie more realistic, but that's not the reason I watch movies of this type.

...was a brilliant movie with regards to keeping the audience guessing! A good friend and I are usually very good at figuring out who the "villain" is before the end of the movie (admittedly, she's better at it than I am), but this one had us guessing right up to the end.

Another great movie ending (and one that hasn't been mentioned yet) is 1408 with John Cusack. The movie itself is a fun roller coaster ride, but the very end (literally the final seconds before the credits roll) ties it all together for Cusack's character.
 
All great chioces, but I can't believe no one has listed Blazing Saddles yet.

I wouldn't necessarily say it was a cool ending, but I can't believe no one has mentioned the ending of The Mist. It wasn't the ending Stephen King used (just learned that still haven't gotten around to buying the book), but even he says he liked it more...

Absolutely heartbreaking ending...
 
I'm going to cast my vote here for Gladiator (as someone mentioned previously). However my absolute favourite movie ending was X-Men: The Last Stand - I actually didn't like the movie very much, but in light of what happened in the previous 2 hours I thought the ending was fitting and very cool.
 
Jacobs Ladder for me has the best ending of any movie i can think of. You're freaked out and happy at the same time.
 
I actually liked the endings of Terminator 3, the rest was crap though, as I always love the idea that no matter what you do you can't change history if it's meant to happen. It goes with the theory that if you shot Hitler or another dictator before they got into power someone would just fill the gap and WW2 would still happen.
