Great things from ANH that just disappeared

One thing we know happened between ANH and ESB is the rebellion was chased half way across the galaxy. It was not good times for them, and I'm betting Vader was in charge of the pursuit, and you know how he deals with failure.
"Have you found the new Rebel Base?"
"No my Lord, we haven't found anythi...GLURRRRRRRK."

I Can also surmise that knowing Palpatane, quite a few people were given an early retirement (Again possibly by Vader) for their failures in the design etc. of the Deathstar leading to it's destruction by a handful of fighters.

Also keep in mind that all the Command Staff of the Deathstar were the Empires best. That on top of their shiny new "Technological Terror", would give them some big cojones, at least in their minds.

I thought about that too... I think it would have been unecessary. As farns, we already know how the target screens work. I would rather see a good chase scene with an XWing and Tie than focus on a screen - we did however see Slave 1's targeting screen during AotC...

I'm going to have to say I disagree here. While I love a good space battle as much as the next guy, the targeting computer also added to the suspense. You've got to wait for the shot--I like that. Instead of just blasting away willy nilly, conserve your ammo and wait until the computer tells you you will make a hit. That just makes sense. And again, the suspense factor--while you are waiting to get into position, you are just hoping, hoping, hoping that the guy chasing you doesn't get his shot lined up first. Really adds to the drama instead of just a bunch of ships flying around blasting away with all that "unlimited movie ammo"...

Although I really liked "Star Wars" when it first came out in '77, I was already an adult (22), and could see the problems Lucas had as a director. For one thing, he does not relate to actors and therefore does not get good performances out of them. I recall how flat and wooden Harrison Ford and the others sounded at times in that movie. If you really think about it, "The Empire Strikes Back" is the movie that really solidified the characters and their emotional states. Much better acting.

Reviving this thread because I was watching ANH the other day and noticed another thing that disappeared. Laser guns that actually "track" their target. In the trench run when you see from the TIE pilots POV, they shoot heir guns, missing the target, and the bolts keep "tracking" towards the target until they hit. Never seen again.

Yea. The idea that ALL starship weapons are at least somewhat articulated, because adjusting the whole ship would be silly, is something I remember being mentioned a LOT in the EU (especially the x-wing novels). But it's never talked about, or really shown in the movies besides that one little bit. Do they ever even show A-wings shooting off at weird angles in ROTJ? they've got those "ultra manuverable" guns on the sides.
