HI all :)

Extremely happy right now, been a long time lurker on here and recently got the itch to build my own lightsaber. i know waaaay to late with the current prices on the bay. Have in my possesion for a little while now an Exactra 20 so still needed the Graflex to start building.
After lossing bid after bid, i finally got one in a fairly good condition :)
I will try to keep this post updated with pics and stuff. It is probably going to take me a while to finish it but looking forward to the journey.

I already got some questions regarding the build :)

is there a chrome tape over the Graflex lettering in the ANH lightsaber? i have seen a promo shot where there clearly is no tape and in the screencaps i
can not see for sure if there is tape or not. ( i am trying to go for screen accurate )

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!

Hi Doya Duwin, congratulations and welcome. I see you're from Groningen as well :)

Indeed no tape on Luke's lightsaber in ANH ... awaiting pictures of your G R A F L E X.

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!

Thanks guys, not tape it is then :)
Hey Sym-Cha, thanks for replying, been following a couple off your threads, and yes it didn't slip my eye that you are also from the great city of Grunnen :D

It is my understanding that you make/ made the best D-rings around, and ive got a question for you.
Is the radius of your D-ring holder design for aesthetic purposes or is it something struly believed as accurate.

I ask this because however it is a truly a nice and accurate design i can not help but think the original prop maker used something he had pre made and within reach,
and if that is the case then i think maybe the radius is more "round" ? like in pre made stuff on bags and such.
Not questioning your research just throwing it out there :)

I will be making my own and wil definitly use your template (maybe a little rounder edge :p)

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!

Congrats!

I remember that feeling over a decade and a half ago. After all these years it is still my favorite lightsaber(ESB version), although I have come to appreciate(and collect others).

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!

Well the only thing about the D-ring that stood out for me was the more roundness of the D than any replica rings made before ... as for the clip indeed I thought it more aestetic to go around the inner edge of the G R A F L E X bottom ... since nobody has ever claimed to have seen the real attachment of the D-ring on the ANH bottom ... your guess what it looks like is a good as mine :)

Roy at wannawanga sells excellent rounded D-rings with or without a custom clip after my original design . . . and of course his T-tracks are superb : http://wannawanga.com/products/t-track/

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!

That saber is made by Slothfurnace ... : http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=89485 . . . well as for metal T-tracks . . . it's possible, but you have to consider that it's been 34 years since filming ANH in 1976 and being presented with Brad's one of kind ANH lightsaber replica in 2010 ... even the hard plastic is quite uncomfortable if you have to wield the saber take after take as opposed to the rubber T-tracks from Blast-Tech :wacko

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!

IMHO I still believe the D-ring comes straight from Lukes swiss army pouch ..

can you point me in the direction of this? It's the first I've heard of it, and can't quite seem to narrow down my search

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!

You are searching a WW II swiss army pouch like Luke is wearing on his belt. It's the double pouch.
It has an D-ring on the backside. Ihave no picture of it at the moment but on my pouch it is a very thick D-ring and a little bit too small for the lightsaber clip.

Edit just took a picture. Here you go.

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!

regardless, thanks guys! I was wondering which pouch it was. That's still a decent lead :)

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!

Does anybody know what kind of metal Roygilsing from wannawanga.com uses to make his D-ring? (clip + ring)

Thanks

Re: WOOHOO! my first Graflex!!
