GQ Vox with Real plasma disk!!
Behold my Galaxy Quest interstellar Vox with real Plasma disk.
based on Red shirts very fine kit.
I had decided years ago that it was possible to fit a battery operated plasma disk in a screen used (for size) vox prop but nothing came close to the quality that red shirt promised so I waited until his kit was released and it was worth the wait.most vox lits I had seen were a bit too small ,I attributed this to mold and part shrinkage as the vox shown on screen seemed to be large enough to me .the hardest part of this whole project was grinding the disk down to the size I could fit into the upper half of the casting both the casting and glass disk had to be altered.I went through three disks to get one to work they are very fragile and most of the problems were in the area where the electrodes came out of the disk in the rear these were easily broken while sanding the thing down on the belt sander ,grinding took two hours apiece.
and then the damned thing wouldn't work.:cry
buy the time I had test fitted everything and was now on the third disk I had most of the difficulties worked out so it went together quite well. I also bought a few reed switches from american science so It would activate like the movie prop, took that idea from redshirts built up which I bought also.
Cant say enough about this fine kit wish it was around two years ago I could have saved some money.
so here ya go ...on with the pix.
