Got a gift, sure it's a recast, what do I do?

:lol:lol I was just jerkin' yer chain dude. I would still tell her it is a recast and explain that when it comes to items of this nature, there are some surprises that aren't worth it. I tell my wife to surprise me with gifts that are easily returnable. :lol

Nice!

I do feel dirty.

I expected the protocol to be
1. make mold
2. make second helmet
3. destroy first helmet and take pics
4. post pics of destroyed helmet to the RPF in a self righteous post about how you won't stand for a recast to be in your home.

In reality I just was curious with recasting being such a touchy subject.
You're joking right? How would recasting a recast make things better?

Here's what you do to cleanse your soul. Buy your wife a "Prada" purse made in china!
If you still feel dirty inside, find out who her favorite actor is, download a googled pic, print it out and then "autograph" it "to (your wife's name)" "thanks for being my biggest fan" signed (famous persons name) :)

My wife bought me an IronMan helmet from a mutual friend that got it from the bay and I'm sure its a recast of the Museum Replicas mark III. What is the protocol. Do I have to drop it off a building?

I'm supirsed no one's said anything to this effect, but: Perhaps you should speak to that mutual friend. First, to determine who sold it to them (so you can report it here?). Then, inform them of "the evils of recasting".

There's not much else you can do. If you feel that badly about it, dispose of it. Otherwise, just do what you would have done anyway.

I did. He's not a collector, he just had the Iron Man bug that went away a week after he stopped seeing Iron Man 2 trailers every 5 minutes on TV. I'm not 100% he understood all I was telling him but he got the idea that I was trying to convey.

this is part of my "not everyone outside of the rpf/prop making community understands recasting". thank your wife. give her a hug. dont worry about educating her about recasting because she may be too nervous to make such a thoughtful purchase in the future, worried it may be a recast.

bottom line, its really no one's business how one spends their money.

My wife gave me a pair of boxers once that were just....wrong. I arranged an unfortunate accident for them a few weeks later where they were torn too much to wear and I just had to throw them out. Maybe Ironman's head could be in the garage and when you backed out this morning, his head somehow fell off the shelf and got smashed. But start to paint it first and show her some progress. Then you can talk about time invested, blah blah. Then, on your 40th wedding anniversary, tell her what really happened with a box of chocolates.:angel

I think I'm just going to give it to a kid at Heroscon this Saturday. I'm going as Iron Man. I think a 10 year old would think it was cool to have Iron Man give him/her a helmet.

Two thoughts:

First, if you think it's too fragile for you to handle, imagine how long it would last in the hands of a 10 year old. It's a nice thought, but the end result would likely be the kid thinking, "Jeez, Iron Man gave me a piece of junk."

Second, and more important, how would your wife feel if she found out you gave away her gift? I obviously don't know what your relationship is like, but if my wife found out I gave something away that she had given to me as a gift, it would have been the last gift she ever gave me. ;)

Keep it, display it, tell your wife you love her. No need to even educate her. Tell her in the future you can use your RPF account and show her the Junkyard. :)

You could always paint it up and do the entire 'reveal' internals and make it worth more... then sell it!

Just keep it. You're already going to burn in eternal Hell for having just laid your eyes on a recast. It's too late for you.
