Good Stormtrooper Helmets?

the rubies helmets are tiny, soft in detail, and overall pretty useless.

unfortunately i don't know of anything decent in that range. if you bump up a bit you can get an efx, but you're still looking at about 2x what you are hoping for :(

Good quality prop helmets of any type are usually in the $175-$300 range for a raw cast. There's a reason why most guys here either have a good stable job to afford this stuff or make it themselves...or both.

Also being a relatively young poor student myself, I know where you're coming from but "them's the breaks man". I look at the very lovely metal machining that goes on here for many of the incredible weapon props and weep when I see the dollar signs involved.

Go to Whitearmor.net and wait for someone to offer "seconds" casts that are imperfect...

You can get em around or under $100 sometimes.

I remember where you are very well young grasshopper. You have many helmets to go through. Building. Breaking. Upgrading.

There isn't a $80 built and painted high quality bucket.

There just isn't.

Knowing that. I say put that $80 away and keep saving. Find an AP helmet that has been built already and enjoy!

THAT OR...

Get a cheap kit or even a damaged one and learn! It can be a pain in the arse, but you would much rather ruin a piece of 50-100 dollar plastic than a $500 100% accurate kit your first go at it!

If this is just for Halloween and just going to be a one time use, go ahead and get the one you linked to. If you are seriously thinking about getting into the hobby though, it's something you will have to pour money into.

It's probably just an 'I want a stormtrooper helmet' thing that I've had since 6. I will buy it, and wear it in my room most likely.

Yep...

That's where it starts! :lol

Que to 5 years later when he has 2 full built suits and 15 different makes of helmets! :)

...and seriously considers selling his only car to pay for "the upgrade". Don't forget to put some of the cash aside for some good shoes...or a bicycle.:lol

Hope this image helps illustrate the difference between a Rubies (left) and something that is more authentic (right)

I say mow a few extra lawns or pick up more hours at work and get the more accurate one. The rubies make the FX look purty and that's a mighty big task.

EFX don't seem to have any in stock.. Unless I'm doing it wrong. Do you know if they would ship to NZ?

EFX re-made essentially the older MR TK helmet. MR made a "MR CE" helmet that was exclusive to the UK, which was a cheaper version, made of vacuform plastic rather than fiberglass (the more expensive counterpart) When these first came out, they ranged at, give or take, the $100 price range. For the price, they are very good replicas, but had serious accuracy issues, which could be fixed if desired for 501st application. But for your needs, I think it'll be good right out of the box. As far as I know, EFX didn't come out with their version of that..

Like mostly everyone else has recommended, go to whitearmor.net. Not only are there so many kits available from reputable makers with screen lineage, there are a ton of build tutorials (honestly, it's not as hard as you think, the helmet itself is only two pieces)

I bought myself the MR CE when they started becoming available in the US a while back, and am pretty happy with it. One day I'll get a more accurate helmet, perhaps as a kit to build, but I'm pleased with the MR CE helmet as a nice display helmet.
