So begins my first attempt at a screen accurate prop. The first post is reference images.

i'm sure a member here did a run of these a while back.

i'm a sucker for gobstoppers.

I know Ryan Nagata (not sure his rpf nick) did a run a while back. I contacted him but he does not have the molds any more. So I figured hey why not just do this as a first project. It should be straightforward enough and budget friendly.

Most of the stuff I have done in the past has been original designs. So creating an accurate replica will be a bit different.

Yes indeed, I have one of his and it is a treasured prop. You should have no problem selling a ton of them is they are half decent. Nick had a wait list a mile long ;)

Just a quick progress update. Have not had a ton of time to work on this side project recently. One gobstopper looks to be made from these two basic parts. 4 x pentagons and 5 x rectangles.

There seems to be another which is far more asymmetrical. This is the one seen on wonka's desk at the end of the movie. I might give that one a go if this comes out ok.

I wound up hiring a designer to model it in 3D, and then printed it in plastic at Shapeways. Once done, I made a rubber mold of the master, cast a whole bunch of resin copies, and hand-painted them with my daughter's fingernail polish. :)

Here's the 3D model I wound up using:
