Goblin Slayer, MK I

Okay, so now that I got the "MK III" suit for the ODST out of the way, time to get a new Cosplay fix. And this time I'm aim for something a little out of my comfort zone, but striding closer to my "Cosplay Goal." This time, I'm tackling the Silver-Ranked Adventurer known as Goblin Slayer, from Goblin Slayer.

Alright, so to start off, I found this real neat program called "Armorsmith Designer" and it works like Pepakura but WAY more advanced. it helped me lot with my second prototype right here. Not only that, but it also has a...."Hashmark"....?...toggle that can be applied to the pieces!
01.jpg 02.jpg 03.jpg 04.jpg 05.jpg

After that was completed, I built the rest of the helmet with these real thick gym floor mats that cost around $15 at Walmart, but found a cheaper set that was around $8 at Harbor Freight. I then had to stack 3 thick foam pieces on top of one another to get the broken horn thing he has on the sides. As for the Pink foam, that was with, I believe, 3mm foam that was superglued on.
06.jpg 07.jpg 08.jpg 09.jpg 10.jpg

Now it came to the process of caulking/sanding it. after that I used a woodburning tool to add all the battle damage that this helmet might've been through. It was also my first time experimenting with such a technique that I would later find other uses for it on other suites to signify bullet holes or plasma burns. I was so surprised how easy it melted the foam that it also help me "Sculpt" the bone details on the sides as well.

Oh yeah, cardboard is a thing, use them for your templates to test fit them before putting them onto your foam and making it law. I did this with my Goblin Slayer torso and feel as though it is a tad small. Gonna keep it for comparison on second attempt.

And now you're caught up to speed. Will all keep you posted as time goes on.

Okay, after 3 attempts, I got the sizes I wanted, but now I feel like the shorter one might be the best, only because the tall one has that point at the bottom. If that was shaved, then I think the tall one would work. Do you think the 3rd is a bit too tall?

So I tested out a theory and wanted to try it out. And so far, I FEEL like I gotta share it:

If any of you wanted to make some belts on your cosplay, but have "little-to-no" experience with leather working or funds, than this is a cheap solution. With some 5mm foam, wool knitting yarn, and a thick needle, you can make something that looks like a belt. And if your skilled enough, maybe something else that is supposed to be made of leather. To make the holes, I just use a fork with 3 points. Gonna use this on my Goblin Slayer armor after more testing. They never teach you things like this in the books, and very little are shown on YouTube.

Okay, at first, thought ''Torso #2" would've been small, but after some thought, and cutting it out on foam, it seems to be the right size so far. For the pieces below, I cut out more surface material for the glue. Going to probably work on the back next.

Okay, got the back piece done, but I think it may be a bit small. Probably need to enlarge the width of it a bit. But can't necessarily do much w/out having the shoulders done. So as soon as I do that, I'll adjust the back to compensate for mobility.

the shoulder's are done. Gonna try and extend the bottom part maybe a little, as well get rid of that pointed piece. Just enough to cover about a little under 1/4 of my bicep.

Gonna think about cutting this into 5mm foam due to the lips and what-not, see how that goes.

Alright, modified the shoulders and I'm starting to think it looks more like it. On to the easier parts and that's the forearms and thigh pieces.

Okay, got some progress done for "Vambrace Prototype V.01." The Vambrace has the individual segments covered in " Velcro A" therefore, giving more maneuverability and placement for "Velcro B". I'm gonna put some 3mm foam on one of the "X" strips, give off the illusion of one overlapping the other on the final product. Just need to refine the strap thickness, placement, and Velcro pieces.
IMG_20200501_215521465.jpg IMG_20200501_215525015.jpg IMG_20200501_215551397.jpg

Okay, this has been TOO long, but the virus kinda screwed my plans for getting foam, not to mention I'm getting back to work, so building and postings will take longer. As for progress, her we go.

As you saw, "V.01" was a good trial run. The Velcro inside could be used to fill 1.5 armor segments at the least, adding more would just make the piece have more strength in stiffness. What I did was that I remade the straps, took the distance between the two and made one big piece.
IMG_20200507_221133721.jpg IMG_20200508_203709961.jpg

Then glued Velcro B onto the corners that would be touching the top. Then it was a matter of connecting the dots of making it look like the straps intersected, and adding 2mm foam to add depth.
IMG_20200508_205636596.jpg IMG_20200508_211543105.jpg

Not a bad first test piece.

Okay, it's been a while, but a lot of stuff just came out of nowhere the last couple of weeks that kinda got me distracted. Now that you're up to speed, let's see the progress:

I finished both gauntlets and added some battle-damage on both. Gonna add some 2mm Eva to get more detail and make it look nicer, rather than have it look plane.
27.jpg 28.jpg 29.jpg 30.jpg 31.jpg 32.jpeg

Started working on the back. Probably gonna add 2mm on that and the chest piece too.
33.jpg

Gonna wait on the connecting strap until I get the under cloth all squared away. I managed to get away with it for the gauntlets because they're a bit more easy to adjust. Gotta learn how to sew real quick.

Sorry I haven't posted anything about any updates on the suite yet. Been watching videos on how to get this one measurement done. It's a male bodice pattern and what I've been trying to figure out is why the shoulder piece is about the same size as the chest, rather than having it be less so like every other bodice pattern.
Shirt.png shirt 02.png

Am I doing it wrong? Or am I measuring incorrectly? I'm measuring it based off of this.

Okay, so I made the "#01 Prototype" and that didn't work out so good.

Firstly on "#01" the chest was a bit too tight. Good for when I stood straight and when I breathed, but was tight when I lurched my arms forward in "#03."

Second on "#02" the Shoulder pieces are too long. Hanging right over, if not further, than the shoulders themselves. Need to shorten them.

Third, the draft needs to be redone. Here it is cut out and cut onto fabric.

295159-51e4a439bb39828eb7d161e45848c493.jpg

And here's the fabric when they're held together with pins. Yeah, looks like a giant square, huh?

Luckily I fixed these problems in my newest "#02 Prototype."

Here's a bit of a detailed diagram of what I did to improve this prototype.

This is for the "Neck" and "Shoulder Slope."

Edit: I forgot to mention!!! When you measure your neck ("X")

- "X" / 2 = "Y"
*If doing half bodice, continue to next
step*

- "Y" / 2 = Target Measurement.

295162-de78fe0eb276e1fce352c7d345da88d7.jpg

And this is for the "Armhole" and "Chest." Also, if you're wondering why I measured the armhole from around the shoulder area, but labeled it on the diagram to the "Top" of the highest point, my only answer is just to "See where this goes, that's what they said in the video."

And here are the fabric pieces cut out. I think that's a little better than before. Though I DO think this is a bit too big for my chest. I might shrink the sides down about .5cm on each, since that would mean I took about 1cm on a whole.

But yeah, that's my progress so far. I think I'm making some improvement and am hoping these diagrams work for ya.^^

Sorry I haven't updated in a while, life has been popping in and I had to shift priorities a couple times to get them out of the way. Might be like this for maybe a couple more months. Will update this thread once everything is settled enough to work on the suite once more.

Got some work done on the shirt and cut out the pieces from the big paper boards unto some bed fabric.

After that, did some "Loose Stitching" and made another piece with sleeves this time. Worked out pretty well.

300392-afd376354ed75396ff5b6beb74e64248.jpg

The bottom of the front arm-hole seemed to be a bit too large. The bottom of the sleeves came up to the space that was added for the seam-allowance.

Sewed it to the line on the other side, but that only tightened the chest a bit more. So I marked where the sleeve met and took it apart. Gonna make a "Front Block #4" out of the adjustments and marking of "Front Block #3."

Tested out the new pattern and....It's fine....I guess. Still not sure how to fix the Armpit holes, but that's not what I'm focused on.

I'm more focused on the tightness on the lats right here. Could be because the fabric is just real stiff and not flexible at all. But with this done, I'm gonna dismantle it and see what the pattern loos like form onto new fabric.

Okay, so block #3 pattern was going great until not; shortened the shoulder pieces to have the edges hanging off my shoulders like a coat, then accidentally lowered the armpit again, shoulder pieces were...alright, so I'm not gonna change those. Spent the whole time thinking "Wait! I can fix this!!" Gonna have to start from scratch again and redo the measurements. Either that, or do another technique that had me just copying the desired shirt onto the fabric. See how that goes.

Hey, so far, so good. Definetly going to watch your progress.
I went for an other way and printed the helmet, the shoulders, belt Buckle and forearms.
Now I have to wait for higher temperatures to do the post printing stuff.

Keep up the good Work!

Had more time to do some research and came across something on YouTube that helped out quite a bit:

And with this, I've managed to make an 8th prototype.
GS 08.jpg GS 09.jpg GS 10.jpg GS 11.jpg

It's a little tight around the arms, so I'll have to make it a bit bigger. It's not much, but it's a step in the right direction. I managed to fix the the arms with the line that had a curve, that's why it became tighter on the arm. I just straightened the two points. Added 1/8" on the sides to be more roomy, some odd reason the added 1" did not match up on the added 1" on the front. Will experiment with that more. Chest is a bit tight, but that's just the fabric.
