Glove materials?

I'm interested in making myself some Sci-Fi themed working gloves, be it halo, half-life, starwars or anything else, that are as durable and dextrous as in the game/show as can be. Does anyone know any real world equivalent materials to use and where I can get them from including materials for finger and hand backings.
