Gloster Meteors crash site

After a VERY long, hard walk, me and my family found two crashed Gloster Meteros today that crashed in April 1951. The flame tubes are a bit different at the bottom than the ones used in Star Wars, but the top half is the same.
Here are some pics:

Flame tube:

Another flame tube thats in really good condition with Death Star Gun part in background:

Under the water in this big hole i could just see some more flame tubes below the surface. I managed to pull them out and i also pulled out a very heavy nose landing gear leg:

The two tubes on the left are what i found in the water:

The tail section off one of the planes. The camera batteries ran out at this point, so no pics of all the other bits :angry Note the RAF red white and blue fin stripes at the top:

Thanks wackychimp for hosting,

Nice find Keith. :eek

So theres just too many holes in the bottom half?

Id say you could still make a pretty decent IG head with it.

Are you going to?

Did you know about this crash site? or just stumble apon it?

Maybe you could make an EU prop, like a Boba Fett trophy crushed IG head with one of the submerged ones. :lol

How much of it did you take with you? did you get the death star gun part? the gear lookin thing?

Very cool family outing either way. your a lucky guy man. ;)

I've been once before back in 1986 with the RAF air cadets.

I brought the flame tube i am holding in the pic back. I'll probably just clean it up and knock out a few dents that are at the bottom edge.
I don't like removing bits from crash sites really, but the amount of stuff i pulled out of holes filled with deep water kind of makes up for the part i took home.

Thanks,

Keith.

Nice find.
Looks like it has an extra hole in the top of the 'head' too (at least one in every engine is like this. I'm not sure of the purpose). Too bad the interconnectors weren't still intact.

Cool stuff. You could just make a version of IG and say it's an earlier or later model and call it IG-66 or IG-99. :D

Im likin Betamin's idea. Those lancer droids in the Clone Wars cartoon were IG models, Im sure there were tons in between.

Having the interconnects would have been cool. Do you know what they look like?

I'm wondering, since the one flame tube is in such good shape, perhaps the interconnectors are still joined together by the clamp which should be something like my crude sketch above. The clamped interconnectos make up a balance pipe assembly, and since they're simply pressed in, they could have been dislodged as a unit upon impact. The clamp may be made out of steel and thus could be rusted, but the Inconel interconnectors should still be a dull silver color.

I thought they were the wrong type for an Obi saber on this model of Meteor anyway. They crashed in 1951.

You are right. Correct balance pipes for the Obi-Wan saber are from a Derwent Mark 9 (or upgraded Mark 8).
Mark 8's debuted in the Meteor F8 in 1948, but the Mk 9 upgrade didn't happen until the NF12 came out in 1953.
